QuiQ replacement install question

Howdy - I have a 2008 GEM e4 that I am replacing the QuiQ charger on. The new unit is a Delta-Q 912-7200. I have new AGM batteries replacing Gel, and could not reprogram the existing QuiQ charger for AGM, hence the new one. (The new one was programmed for AGM - Algo 42) The leads are black, white, green and red. Same as existing charger. I have a DC motor (original).

My question is that the new charger came with the white and black tied into the same battery lead… should I separate those and install this the same was as the existing setup? My white and black on the existing are separate. The white ties into a bundle of cables that I think goes to the battery array, and the black goes to the DC converter (+ terminal).

and the black goes to the DC converter (+ terminal).

Most likely that was on the Motor Controller NEG post. (the gray box)

The purpose of the white wire is a battery temperature sense wire. Your original 2008 has the charger mounted up front under the shelf with the motor controller.

The white wire connects to the car harness and changes to an Org/gn wire that runs all the way back to a temp sensor on the neg post on the #1 battery (aka B- ). This sensor looks like a battery cable lug with two small pigtails coming out of it.

Your new charger has both Bk and Wht wires going into a molded connector. This is actually a newer design temp sensor and meant to be connected to the same place (B- ).

The problem with what you have there is that I doubt you have enough wire to go all the way back to the battery.

Your options are-

  • Cut off the new sensor and wire the Bk and Wht wires as the old one was set up (leave 3” of the wires sticking out of the sensor so you can still use it later)
Note: the old sensor still needs to be back on the first battery.
  • Leave the new sensor in place, and hook the assembly to the closest source of B-. The charger will no longer be able to sense battery temperature and it will not be able to adjust if needed.

Note: When using a profile that is tem compensated (I believe #42 is) The charger still needs to have the temp sensor in place. It cannot be simply cut off and run without.

Sidebar- (If you have not figured it out yet) Your 2008 will also be using the green wire. It is currently covered with heat shrink and a scary message attached to it. That is your interlock wire.

Fantastic info. Thank you!
