I am building an RC mower using a 36" twin blade mower deck salvaged from an old MTD riding mower. Drive will use two NPC wheelchair motors with an IBC controller and differential steering.
I plan to use a series wound motor salvaged from a mid 60s vintage golf cart to drive the blades. It is rated 1.5 hp at 2800 rpm and 36V/40 amps. I will use a contactor to control this motor. Can anyone comment on the suitability of this motor for this application? I think a shunt wound motor would be better. Is there a possibility of overspeed when the blades are not loaded? I thought about starting with 24V and checking the performance.
