Display blinking once per sec: temp, turtle, wrench & 3 squares around DH, DL, R

Basically, when the dash display boots up it does not see any data stream from the motor controller.

Most of the time it is a loose connection.

  • Check/clean the 23p connection on top of the controller or the connectors on the PSDM

Sometimes the controller is not booting up.

  • check the fuses
  • Possible dead controller

Once it was due to the controller sitting across the room on a bench.

  • install controller into car

Review what led up to when this started happening.
Is the car still working?

OK
Cleaned all connections, sprayed with deoxit D5 and made sure all were seated properly.

Missed the fuse on DC Controller first time, thanks for the reminder.
Had some corrosion and thought that could be it but No Goā€¦uug.

Confirmed dc controller is in car.

Now another piece to the story, this error developed with troubleshooting a blown fuse 13 (10amp ceramic in fuse panel). That has been replaced to now have an energized Cluster with above blinking lights.

Looking at motor controller harnesses behind dash now

Heā€™s not kidding, someone did this and after a few days of trying to troubleshoot he told us the controller wasnā€™t yet installed.

What do you think caused Fuse 13 to overload and blow? Sometimes when a fuse blows it doesnā€™t save everything on the circuit from failure and when you put a new fuse in, the other stuff works but the thing which didnā€™t survive is still bad/not working.

Agreed on fuses not protecting everything ā€¦ thought maybe it was something shorting when going into reverse (backup lights buzzer etc) Now fuse holds because we canā€™t get anything to engage.

suspect the relay in main fuse panel

Have 75 volts feeding panel
2 White power wires to motor controller are not energized by key relay at this point.

Whish i could post pics but canā€™t figure out right now

We are assuming ignition switch relay coil goes to ground ā€¦ wiring diagram is not clear on this.

Just checked for shorts at motor controller ignition power input. all seems good (J5)

Question
Is the ignition switch relay controlled by anything else but the ignition switch?

Letā€™s focus on this for a few minutes.

On later cars Pin1 should get B+ as soon as the Main Batt Switch is ON. It pre-charges the controller and you should see B+ across the big POS and NEG input connects on top of the controller.

Pin2 gets B+ when KeyON and wakes up the logic board on the controller.

On your 2005 it looks like both are switched on at the same time via the Key Relay. Verify that relay is is getting B+ from your F13.

F13 has power.
There is no power on pin1, pin2 or the lugs.

How do I check the relay. It looks like it is sealed within the Power/Signal Distribution Module.
I did not remove it from the car yetā€¦ is the relay accessible from the back?
I was going to order a new one thinking the relay was bad.

0606-00436 MODULE, POWER & SIGNAL DISTRIBUTION

Sealed is a very loose way to describe the PSDM. Letā€™s do some more checking before getting into that.

First Iā€™d like to establish what you are using for your meter Reference(where your black probe is poking for this test?) Hint: It should NOT be poking at the chassis/frame. It should be on a B- source. Follow?

Hopefully by now you have the Upper and Lower Dash Panels of the car off.
One more place you can find B+ with the KeyON is over at the Main Contactor.
You should find a white wire on the coil. It should go high when KeyON - Y/N?

Verify Again that when you KeyON the Dash Display lights up and Accessories are available (Headlights, Horn, Brake lights)

@AssyRequired
OKā€¦ thank you for the help here.
The electrical schematics leave a bit to be desired here. We were using ground to car, not ground to battery.
Ill check again tonightā€¦
Thank you

As you might have noticed, the converter 12V uses the chassis for ground and the HV battery is isolated from the chassis. Or at least it should be.
