AC motor for Gem

* List item

What up everyone. Just got back from a long ass trip up north trying to get this Pmac going. It was a long drive and a long day at the shop. Let me give you the short story. So we ended up bypassing the forward and reverse switch as well as the foot throttle cause it was making Raul work too hard. But that can all be corrected later. Motor turned and we had the wheels spin, but it had soo much torque and feed back that the cart would shake at take offs. So Raul turned the settings way down. So at the moment the take off is ok but not where you’d want it. So I need to get some help getting the Sevcon software with Dave and learn how to fine tune. I can tell you this from my test ride the motor is crazy fast and my wife was scared. With 14” tires I was going 45 mph like it was nothing. We own two Tesla’s and this Gem is my new baby Tesla now. LoL I have plenty to do still.

Success:
Ac induction motor runs. One of my buddies has it working. Not in a Gem however.
11hp continuous.
Supplier will drop ship samples for cost. $75 shipping est.
Add a new Sevcon controller
He does not program them.
A Curtis controller will also run them, and I have an oem handset for Curtis.
If someone wanted to do the fine tuning I think there would be a big demand.
I have the parts to build a conversion wire harness.

PMAC like Troy’s is another $200. 1/2 the weight and a little more power.
Keep an eye on him. He seems to be very close, and I’m sure will share what he learns.
It may also help him to have someone mirror his project and help debug it.

Damnit. Just when I think I am done throwing money at my GEM.

I would like for more people to help with this, but it is far from a working system.
Follow Troy for PMAC progress. He’s in deep and could use some support.
I will post Kevin’s progress with the induction motor.

These are cheap and available in pretty good quantity. 40pcs as of now.
I believe there are several forum members who would be up to the task of getting these working in a Gem.
Someone other than Troy will need to jump in and sink or swim.

Mine is a daily runner and I’m pretty maxed out on free time right now otherwise I’d be on board. I can definitely join in once we get closer to beta stages.

Dave, can you post the make & model #'s on the two motors?

Or if you have it, a link to data sheets & dimensional drawings of the motors?

thanks

Limited information. Forum limits what I can upload. Email me for other files.

That pmac gives me the anxious sweats.

Then look at how you can set it up. (turf mode)

Battery limits.

Now will this work in the new Gems?
It will if I swap controllers for $500

Road mode. #2

This can’t be so hard. Not even in Chinese as I’m used to.

David you think you could swap the Stock controller out, and install a controller that can be modded?

That’s what I’m thinking, but I don’t know what functions would be lost.
I connected to the Gem controller just now. Getting no can traffic. Either I’m locked out or I don’t know what I’m doing.

Fingers crossed you are able to find a backdoor into the program🤞

At least I’m working on it today.

Pmac is a bust so far. Looking for more help with it.

However, I have 8kw continuous 40hp peak induction motors that are working great.
Need help with mechanical fitment before it’s a kit.
@Troyin909 is running one now.
@grantwest is next if he finds a new Gem that needs upgrade.
