2001 825 E4 Rebuild with Pictures

Just talked to the Service Manager and they have already done the brake update and are waiting for parts on the power update. I will update this after I pick up the car and get more information on what all they repaired under warranty. Have a great day!

interesting… I got the notice on the brake but haven’t seen a power update… I did that on my own when I added another 5hp <grin>

I changed out the batteries yesterday… what a difference new batteries make…

He spoke of it as a power update, but I’m almost positive it is the dc board update he was referring to. I cant wait to try out my new batteries!

Got the car back today and it works great! I had no bill and they changed out the parking brake handle, put on some new splash guards and updated the DC board.

New wheels should be here this afternoon and then a new picture!

Here is the new DC board and the new wheels that showed up today. Wheels are 14x6 with 205/30/14. I had to order special lug nuts for this. The size was 10mm x 1.50

I have a set of wheels off my Scion - so I bought adapters to match the 4X4 pattern on the E825 I have to the 5 bolt 4.5 bolt circle wheels from the Scion - the offset for the Scion wheels, plus the 1.5 " thick adapters, brings the offset near to the zero offset for the stock GEM wheels - the stock GEM wheels I’m taking off are the 10" rims, with Goodyear tires for off-road (golf course use) - they are 17" tall - the new tires are 24" tall - some cutting of the body near the door will have to happen, but clearance with aluminum and steel frame members, suspension, etc, is OK. I will have to pull off the rear fiberglass fender unit, and add some sort of “tub” over the wheels – but I’m making a small pickup/stakebed type unit for the back, and can add something to that …
I did license the GEM under the new NEV law in NE – it was difficult, as I’m the first and only GEM licensed under the new law in Lancaster County – but the State DMV officer came out and personally inspected it, and wrote up the req’d paperwork !

Glad to hear you got it licensed. I am going to wait until mine is all back together and then I will transfer title and start the registration process. Any helpful hints you can provide to save me some hassle?

I need some help from those of you with 4 seats. It appears my rear seat bottom is missing something to "latch the rear seat down. Currently the bulb that is attached to the seat just sits under the fiberglass bowl. The seat is off centered and doesn’t properly latch down. Also you can see that the bulb is not directly in the center of the seat. Could someone take a look at theirs and attach a picture or possibly suggest a route I should take? Im going to have my kids riding on it so I want it safe. Plus it drives me crazy it is off centered!!
Also there is a metal bar running across the seat that the bulb is attached to. It as well is not centered on the seat but appears it is supposed to be there since it is welded in place?

Thanks all.

Nice looking wheels… it’s going to be a pretty car

Bob

Seems like you must have a missing bracket where the rubber plug on seat’s bottom would engage with a rubber socket mounted into the missing bracket. I’m guessing because my Gems are '07 & '08 models which are somewhat different than yours but hopefully ~similar enough~ to help you choose how to proceed. Two pics are attached; others will provide pics that perfectly match your year model. My first pic shows an 2007 e4 rear-seat’s bracket which should be the most similar to your model. The second pic is just fyi showing a 2008 e2 seat bracket (this also shows the e2’s e-brake handle assembly mounted to the bracket).

On the older GEM, there is no actual latch to secure the seat. It just has an interference fit with the rubber piece by the parking handle.

looking good. I finally got some pictures of mine also. way fun project. Next is the 8.5 hp from ride for fun!!

Thanks for the reply. The bulb that is attached to the seat is on the drivers side from the center support. The parking brake frame is on the passengers side. Mine also does not have any rubber piece on the parking brake side.

Could someone post a picture of theirs is set up?

Thanks all

I bit the bullet, and got mine licensed today in Cass county. PITA but got it done. Make room for (2) car license plates in your build. lol

Hey how is your Project Comming Any updates

Im currently trying to get the windshield, roof panels and sunroof off. I am going to paint them off the car and need to replace the sunroof.
Im having a terrible time getting the adhesive cut so I can remove anything.

It has been colder and raining these last few days so painting is at a stand still currently.

Hope to get some more hours back into the car this weekend.

What are you going to use for the sun roof. I have never seen that part for sale. I’m guessing any local plastic store could cut and supply the plastic

i just bought a piece of plexi glass smoked color, i also extended my sin roof bigger and it cost me $65.00 cutt ready to install.

Extended Sun Roof that’s cool. I’m guess you made it come further forward?

Hey guys. Sorry I got distracted from the Gem project while building my outdoor kitchen. I’m going to try and get back to focusing on this project again. Here are some updated pictures as it currently sits.

Car runs and drives great. I lost wiper function, and brake lights somewhere along the way. Checked all fuses are good? Horn works. Not sure on front lights as they are not hooked up. Any suggestions how to narrow this down would be appreciated. Thank you!

**ill post pictures as soon as I figure out why they are uploading upside down.
