Zivan thermistor question

Pulled into Cody, wy (cold) from Yuma, AZ (hot) plugged charger and got two tone alarm and flashing yellow light. I un plugged the thermistor and it worked fine, just no charge indicator light. Ok… Found that the thermistor was under one of the batteries, wire smashed and all kinds of corrosion on it. Apparently the battery leaked on it. Perhaps the change in elevation? I will pull the battery tomorrow and inspect the case for a hole or crack. Anyway the thermistor is toast. Excessive heat is not an issue here, so my question is: can I just cut the leads to the thermistor and leave the other plugged in so as to not lose my indicator light?

Dunno. Never tried that. I suppose if you cut and individually insulate both of the thermistor wires it should see it as “not there” and still run the LED. It will run fine without the thermistor. The charger just runs the full program/algorithm rather than trimming the voltage / time in the last phase based on temp.

That’s pretty much what I figured, thanks. As soon as it stops snowing here, I’ll get into it.

Ok… FYI. no it will not work. I got the same alarm and yellow light. I got a new one from elcon for 50 bucks and everything works great again.

Interesting… So it doesn’t care if the entire 5p connector is absent, but knows and errors if the temp sensor is missing and the LED is connected normally.

Was there a small circuit board with a chip or more than two wires up to the thermal sensor?
Did you happen to ohm out the cable to see if there was a second section of cable that was crushed and shorted?
I suppose if we knew the thermistor secs you could have just soldered in a resistor,

Not really important, just my inner lego man thinking out loud…

It’s fixed.

Apparently it does. I had thought about the resistor , but one would need a known good one along with a digital thermometer, ohm meter, and a glass of hot water to read and record the measurements. Also I cut it off under the dash next to the plug . Interesting to note that the thermistor part only has two of the five wires and the led light bulb has three.
