Looks like it’s been a few months since anyone posted on this, so I thought I would share what I did and also ask what others are up to.
I wanted something a little brighter than stock on my 2001, but I don’t need a light bar or super bright headlamps.
I dropped in these LEDs.
I needed to slightly file down the corners on the back of the headlamp to fit the bulb, but otherwise they work well. 5 minute job.
They have a couple of forward facing LEDs to help fill the light gap left by other bulbs.
Overall, I would guess 25% brighter than stock. So not an OMG difference, but worth the $20.
Anyone else have an easy drop in to recommend? Looking at past posts, some of the previously recommended housing replacements are no longer available.
Great job @sunol
My benchmark for a headlight is what your new bulb insert does to the light pattern. Does the light actually make it to where you want it to go?
-or-
is the light spraying out in all directions?
What does it look like at night on a flat wall or your garage door?
I’ll have to see if I can post something (my garage door is dark brown).
Just from driving it last night, it does spray more than stock, but is also brighter overall. So not bad, but could be better.
It all depends on how much you are willing to spend. I’d say for $20, a little time creatively fitting, and they work for your needs - You did just fine.
Environment matters too.
Some people with campground runners that never make it out on public roads, are happy installing off road lights bars for tons of light. I’m pretty sure if you light up an oncoming officer he will have words for you.
