Hot extension cord

So I am new to charging my GEM, I guess I assumed you could simply plug it in using a standard extension cord to a outlet?

It has been charging for about an hour, and I went out to check on it, and the prongs were so hot. I literally burned myself. Really don’t want to burn down my garage or house, so I purchased a thicker gauge extension cord thinking this might help? Haven’t tried it yet, but wanted to see what everyone else is doing.

You didn’t but this gem from some semi-psychotic guy named Allan Bullock in Livermore did you?

How long is the extension cord and what gauge is the wire?

If you cant answer that without looking or thinking too hard, its probably too small. Go get a 12 Gauge (12AWG) extenson cord.

The DQ chargers pull about 12amps, up to 15. That’s too much for the average homeowner grade extension cord or right at the upper limit.

I didn’t! Bought it from a guy who lived in San Francisco. Yes, the cord that I had available was just a basic cord, how it goes! I have a really heavy duty 12 gauge cord now so I will give that a whirl, should have just used it in the first place!

The input plug needs to be shiny new and heavy duty as well.

Tbh, switching to j1772 plugs is best.
