High Speed 9.3 Transmission coming soon

Yes, he will send labels.

@grantwest do you want my 8:1?
You already have a 10:1 in the works.

I would take 10:1
Here are the Output shafts 22 Spline

Here is the Input Shaft 19 spline

Let me ask my question again so it makes more sense. Could we take out the Output shafts from the factory gem transmission & put them into one of the 8.1 transmissions.

What are the other gear raitos available

A little history the 2016 TRIM transmission was extremely noisy. I built a 10.35 Schafer into a unit that would replace the TRIM unit. The Schafer/Rodney The real engineering went into the half shafts to enable the early shafts fit the 2016 chassis. included in the set up was a 1/4 inch thick flat washer to fit over the CV joint to space it toward the gear boxā€¦It took 44 tries before we got it right. I worked with Mike Newhouse and he did the testing. What we ended up with was right.

This ran good However Mikes cart developed a camber problem and he erroneously concluded the shafts were too long and shortened them. They werenā€™t. The transmission developed a whine and I believe he abandoned the project. The 2nd unit is out there running today as far as I know. I lost track of it.

These shafts look simple but took a lot of development to get the right length
and make them LIVE. Since I have other fish to fry I am willing to share the shaft information with someone who wants to pick it up.

During the same time period I built a 6 to 1 Schafer unit to put behind A low speed HiTorque low speed motor for INWO. This never happened. He passed it on to ??? it was sent back to me and I added Plates to convert it to new models. I donā€™t know who has it now. I understand the person wants to do the low speed High torque bit in a classic.

I have a case and will swap the 6 to 1 gears out of the Schaffer/ Rodney
At no charge because I am interested in the project.

Rodney

Looking at them, i dont believe they are the same.
Rodney, can output shafts swap?
18 spline and 22 spline.

I dont think it necessary.
On the way to Scott. It looks like it will still fit in a classic.
If no, he can send it to you.

I asked Mike to send me the short shafts to see if i can have them copied. We neet two sets, possibly, replace Mikeā€™s and for my 6:1.

How about buying an 18 spline think cv joint, and putting it on the oem gem shaft.

Here is a picture of the mount that need ground down some to make the PMAC fit. Itā€™s not bad.

And I have an awesome set of half shafts. That are .75ā€ to short. Lol.

Does the pmac need to be powered HV? Iā€™d be interested in testing pmac, 9:3 team gears, and 16s. Would that be valuable?

Iā€™m with Gabe and not as concerned about top speed. Hill climbing with a load is what Iā€™d be interested in.

No, i ran the pmac at 66 volts. There is no difference in torque that i noticed.

I am out of town but when I return to KC this weekend I will ā€œfindā€ them in the garage and get them out to you. The guy that rebuilt them did an incredible job - True and straight. He might redo them again to the correct length. I just dread taking those things apart again.

Here is a video of the whine from the 10.1 gears (classic retrofit to modern) - this is at about 40mph. Gets worse the faster you go.
Sounds like a stereo alternator whine - it was unbearable to drive around.
At the time the gears had about 25 total miles on them. I was never able to get a clear answer to what the issue might be, so as Rodney stated I abandoned the project and went back to 12.1 gears and stock half shafts.

That would drive me nutsā€¦

Just talked to Grant. He would like to do some testing. I need to see if he could use the E2 that Ernie has.

@Erniea15
Grant has the time to work with you on the E2 and pmac. Either follow along, you doing the work or possibly sharing the car between you, Grand, and possibly Byron.
It seem there are things going back and forth all the time.
Grant is ok just watching you from the sidelines, but did say he had time now.

I would never pull the E2 from you if you want to do the work. I also know that you fly around once in a while. How abought having the car at Grantā€™s for a while? Maybe you and Mike fly in for some play time.
@grantwest @MikeKC @AssyRequired

Ps.
I can pay the reg fees if you started that already. I donā€™t know Grantā€™s feelings about insurance etc.

I still donā€™t physically have the car yet. Working on some paperwork issues. Let me get my hands on it and then come up with a plan. I was mostly interested in playing along with the stock voltage testing and then finishing with the PMAC stuff.

I agree thatā€™s a lot of gear noise. Something was off because I have found a good running 10:35 to be a very quiet gear combo. Speaking of quiet gears the 2019 E6 limo I had was very quiet. Only went 25mph but going on a flat road with no big load on the transmission it was almost silent. (We all know loading the gears adds noise) but you get the point

My intrest had these on my list HV, PMAC, 6.1 or 8.1 transmission & Sevcon. I was thinking I could use it as a test Mule instead of taking my car apart. Come summer time we use the car full time for enjoyment, I wouldnā€™t want to have my car down for anytime,

Dittoā€¦ I was thinking the same thing. Thatā€™s why Iā€™ve had a PMAC in my garage for almost 2 years. Havenā€™t wanted to take my daily driver out of commission while I play with different configurations.

Let me get my hands on it and then we can discuss.
