E825 2002 made public

Hey there… you seem to be the expert / gem god on here lol.

recently booted up an old 2002 E825 thats been sitting for 10 plus years.. all she needed was new batteries.. worried about the original charger not maintaining the new flood batteries.. what type of new charger would you recommend to keep them in tip top shape and also have an option to trickle charge them during the WI winter months.. something thats plug and play would be helpful since I am not electrically handy… I don’t believe this gem has had any of the recall work done so any advice is welcomed!!.. ps if I take it to a service center do they still preform the recall work on them? I assume that day has come and gone?. much appreciated your time!.. thanks much

I wouldnt say that, i just sometimes have more time than others to answer.

Hey, does the original charger work and is it a Zvan or a Schott?

If you put flooded batteries in, a zivan is fine. Even other chemistries will work you just need to rely on your bms to halt the charge.

If it’s a Schott, it’s garbage. Depending if you have a late or early 02, will influence which charger it has.

As fot the trickle charge, some have automatic 7 day restarts. For those that dont, the way around that for the zivan is put the car on a 15amp light timer, have it cut the power once a week for 5 minutes then turn back on and the charger will kick back on and top off the wet cells. Make sure they at the proper water acid levels.

Dc dc converter, I’ll gong to invite Byron in to this, he has photos of all of them to help determine what you have.

Run your vin through the NTSB recall database. If it shows not applied, they you may be able to get a new dc dc for free.

Unfortunately there was some fraud going on with the converters and dealers years ago, and gem has been bought and sold 3 times since, so don’t trailer if you haven’t checked and talked to a polaris dealer to verify they can perform the recall.

@AssyRequired @Inwo

Dave, could you please make this thread Public?

And sometimes quite a bit to say about his favorite car. Some people don’t appreciate his advice.

@Djnasty - Yes, It would be good to look under your dash and identify your charger. A big black plastic box dead center of the dash will probably be a Zivan. If silver(aluminum), then it would be a schott.

Do you have a hand held digital meter? With that you can monitor your battery voltage when it is charging. You need to see how kind it is to your new batteries.

Looking around in under the dash, over on the right side, way down at the passenger foot well, you might see an open faced circuit board. (much like this)

Or even an aluminum box with black end cap.

These are two signs your wiring/recall has not been done.
It is not necessarily a BAD thing if not done, as long as the board down not look like it has been compromised by moisture (all corroded and dirty).

If your recall has been done, you will have a black box with fins. This box will even have a label marked SurePower on one end.

If NOT done, There are not any dealers I know of that will perform the recall. Best bet would be to watch for someone parting out a car and grabbing the harness from them.
