Constant power to wiper motor

I recently discovered the wiper motor on my 2017 gem with the key on has 13+ volts with the wiper switch in any position even when turned to the off pos. And When the key is off there is no power as expected to the motor.
Any ideas? Thanks!

Yep. There are usually two wires that go to your wiper motor. One wire is a +12v constant. This is the park. It runs the motor until it finds the “home” and the motor will stop with the blade out of the way.

Do the same check on the OTHER wire going to the motor. It shoud go ON/OFF with wiper switch position.

This is all reference to Any third wire that may be going to your motor, which is probably black (or ChassGnd).

This exact thing has been talked about before. I have had the same thing happen to me. People reported it’s. Bad ground to the wiper motor itself. I never followed up on what the fix was. I
Hate how high the wiper sits on the window when it finds home so I personally just removed the wiper arm and started using Rain X. But I would like to know what the fix is?

Also if you have to buy a new motor I was looking into the 2023-2024 set up. The new wiper arm is Curved so it sits real low in the window almost flat
With the dash so it’s out of the way. I figured the wiper motor is a new part because I’m
Sure the new Motor has to travel farther (more movment) then the 2016-2022 motor. Solid you have to buy a new one look into an upgrade.

But I hope you can repair your Orignal. Curious to know if anyone has taken their Orignal one apart and figured out the fix

First issue
So, from what I missed in Gemmy’s first post is that the Switched wiper power never shuts off? Make sure you are observing this correctly. Then you are looking at a switch or wiring issue. Possibly a stuck relay?

Second issue
If the motor is getting power, then why is the motor not moving? Is the wiper arm removed and you did not notice it is running? Is the motor stuck?

@grantwest
I agree. The wiper really needs to be tucked away. The guy in charge of placing the wiper on the car was either super lazy or under funded.

I have seen notes elsewhere that the wiper motors may have been previously supplied by Marinco. I’m not sure if the '16+ cars are the same.
If so, perhaps this unit has adjustable sweep? This doc shows 50, 65, 80, and 110 degrees of sweep. I will go look at mine to see if more can be coaxed out of it. From there, the park position is a matter of how the wiper arm is shaped.

Ok we are talking about 2016+ cars Correct ok cool! Whats been reported as a problem
By myself and others In the past is the wiper motor stay ON. Constantly running you can’t turn it off. (Only solution is to remove the fuse) here is the thread from 2020 that I started.

That reminds me if you remove the fuse and let it sit for a while you can replace the fuse and the wiper will work. It will remain stopped UNTILL you turn it on again with the wiper switch It will just run constantly as it did b4.

So I’ll dive back into the previous thread.
BUT what got my interest peaked is “assembly required’s” drawing of the wiper motor and the possibility that you could adjust the sweep of the wiper motor. That would be a cool Hack if you could. Bend the factory Arm to closely resemble a 2024 wiper arm and advance the sweep. That would be Sweet! We must investagate. Here is a photo of a 2024 Gem. With the wiper arm in the resting position

If you do it right, You could hack the motor to vertical park along the A pillar like our cousin the Cybertruck 50in wiper.

I’m cool with the factory arm dropping down to the stock location of the 2024 Gems. I think if we can document the Mod that would allow (if possible to fix and Mod the factory wiper motor) that would be a great thread

Hold my beer.

Oscar from Gem of miami says that the 2024 Gem car Wiper Motor is the Same wiper motor on a 2016 Gem. He says that the wiper Arm is the only thing that’s Different
