My 2008 E4 started to die when I hit a bump in the road. If I released the accelerator normal operation resumed. Stupidly I went to the beach yesterday knowing I had a problem. When we were ready to leave I switched the GEM on but when I pressed the accelerator pedal nothing happened. It didn’t make a sound. There was power to the dash as well as the lights, etc.
There isn’t any power to the contactor.
Any advice on troubleshooting this will be appreciated.
Sounds like you have a bad connection. I would recommend taking the entire dash off and going threw each connection by removing it and checking it. Try De-Ox. It’s a Anti corrosion Spray. Get a electronic surface cleaning tools like small screw drivers and contact cleaning brushes. Go threw your connection ALL OF THEM. Way easier to do it at home with all your tools in hand then have you stranded out on the road with no tools and your passengers stranded.
I would take off every connection and clean it re-install it one by one. Label connections your not sure of
Make sure to check all your fuses - believe it or not the parking brake switch runs thru one of them, if it is blown the contactor will not activate. Does you PB light go out on the dash when you release the PB?
