Hello! I just picked up a 2017 Gem e2. No batteries but was told it had 4 12v. Added new batteries (lead), new Contactor, all new fuses and relays, new 12v aux battery. Lights, blinkers, interior, etc all work. Charger seems to recognize the batteries and charge but I have no power to the cluster. I hear a click when I turn in the key and that’s it. Any ideas?
Not 1 person has any ideas? lol
I can only assume you’ve checked the connection to the display? You probably don’t have another display available to try in its place? Have you got the wiring diagram to identify and test the 5 wires going to the display? You say you replaced relays. Does that include the display relay?
Sorry. I think I gave more questions than answers here. I think a lot more needs to be known about the car, and your skills so we can help you out.
Traction batteries and the 12V dash battery, ok. Since the previous traction batteries were missing, have you verified / tested the battery pack total series voltage and that it’s delivering that same voltage to the components that it’s supposed to? Has voltage into the cluster been tested, and what is it, on what connectors / pins.
New main contactor, all fuses replaced and all relays replaced… What was the underlying reason for replacing every fuse, every relay and the main contactor? All of these components going tits-up together / at the same time is not a “normal” failure. although it is certainly possible under really bad conditions and events. Like someone parked at the bottom of a lake… or in a sealed or improperly ventilated building and was exposed to strong chemical vapors. Or it got hit by lightning… Or some asscown gave it the patented 00-04 GEM four-step field test and remediation.
Was the history of the vehicle shared with you? Or is this kind of the NEV version of a tinder date?
Did you verify the output of the charger or is it just das blinkenlites?
On that note, it may be a good idea to check what profile the charger is set to, since the batteries were missing and "No batteries but was told it had 4 12v. " is kinna sketchy… You put four flooded lead acid batteries is, but say it had GEL battereis, and remains on that profile, the FLAs won’t be charged properly nor fully and 6 months to a year from now, they’ll be shot. Or the guy who told you “four 12v” is a crackhead and it actually had six 8V Leoch batteries. Those were 165 or 180Ah AGMs, in which case the DQ is probably going to just axe murder those four FLAs… Soon.
Your R2 unit probably has a bad motivator, look at all this smoke…
