2014 Gem e6 cart

We (American Legion Post 108) recently purchased a 2014 Gem e6 (and an e4).

Many of the electrical components were fried or so corroded that everything had to be replaced.

The original wiring harness between the PDSM J4 and the Delta-Q QuiQ 922-7200-04B was cut off midway and P4

had 6 wires into J4 (two White, 1 Red, 1 Green, 2 Black.

A new/used/refurbished PDSM and Delta-Q QuiQ 912-7200 with only 4 output wires (1 White, 1 Black, 1 Red, 1 Green no P4 connector) was purchased but I have no pin out for the harness end where P4 is to be attached so it can be connected to PDSM J5.

Can anyone help with this?

Thank you

Yes, you need a dci type charger. That plug supplies all of the 12v systems.

Save the old charger, as some of us can supply you with a new generic dci charger. We need the plug from old charger to make the new one plug and play.

A new Gem branded charger may be hard to source, and possibly cost $750+, if you do find one.

To answer your question:

But my concern goes deeper. I think you might have a handful in front of you.

What is the history of this car?
What does the other car look like?

This car sure looks like a flood car. Can you post more pics?
Is that a water line that continues all the way around at other points on the perimeter?

If it is what I think it is, you will have nothing but issues here. Beyond the entire electrical system, Any and ALL fasteners will be a challenge to remove. To get an idea what you will be in for, try to take a wheel off. How hard is it to get the lugs off? Do this to a front wheel and get a look at the brakes(check the back too).
In future, you may never get the axles out of the front hubs.
Do the wheels roll smoothly without much effort?

First of all, welcome to this great forum-there’s a lot of cumulative knowledge here.

@AssyRequired makes some good points. If that indeed is a ‘high water mark"‘ you may bite off more than you can chew(no insult intended). Is your intent to make both of them run? You may have to cannibalize one to fix the other.

As inwo said, you need a different charger. The correct Deltaq for your year has trhe 12v converter built in that plugs into the psdm. New they are 1200. If you have the old charger I can use the cables to get you a new correct charger for half what the dealer charges. flooded Gems are a real challenge.

Where are you located?

Update:

The e6 was completely stripped down. Wiring harness removed and each wire rung out and checked good. Axle, brakes, motor suspension all RnR’d. Electronics replaced with like for like parts. The only piece in question is the pin out of P4 since I didn’t want to start randomly trying to wire the connector hoping I didn’t fry the new components. Removing parts was no issue with bolts, screws etc.

Florida, Tampa area.

We purchased the DeltaQ with the DC/DC converter having 12vDC out. It only has 4 wires at the output and the wiring difference between the 4 wire output and the P4 6 wire using two white and two black are the point of confusion. Perhaps the two white wires were tied together and one black to chassis?

I updated my post to answer the water issue. Thank you for providing the photo with pin out signaling. This is the place we got stuck. Does the one white wire from charger DC/DC converter splice into a second white wire in the harness and then to pins A and B?

(Just to make sure)
A real DCI will have two groups of wires for output. Make sure you don’t mix them up! One of them is charger out (+72v - usually 12ga) and the other is +12v (usually 18 ga).

Yes, the white (switched) output splits off the same wire in the harness as does the black. One wire will go to J4 and the other goes to ChassGnd.

(As noted)
One wire is +12v constant, and the other is the enable wire (comes from key) which switches on the white output wire(s) for the accessories. When enable is removed, the DC Converter continues power on the switched legs for a bit (maybe 30 sec?). Don’t be confused by this.

You won’t have an 72v orange wire in J4. Your converter gets power from the supply inputs (it was a convenient pic I had at hand).

Thank you. I will be working on th e6 during the week. Your input was very helpful. I’ll let you know how it goes.

can you post a picture of the charger plugs and I can tell you how to wire. If it is the version I think you have, you will need to hook up more than the 4 wires to get it to work.

E ie. 72v is only used with external dc-dc converter?

Yes, external DC Converters (Surepower units) use this wire.
The DC-DCI cars this orange wire (E) is missing.
(Mental note: I should go track down where the Surepower unit picks up B- but I bet is is one of the loose wires down on the shunt.)

The colors change too. That is why I referred to wire position first.

This should represent what @Hanno had on his car.

That looks correct minus the second black wire. From our photo it looks like that black wire was pinned to E and may have gone to chassis but that doesn’t make sense if Pin E is for +72v. I’ll see if there is a better photo angle to be sure. Unfortunately I came into this project after the initial disassembly / rebuild had begun and did not have the opportunity to go through everything in the “as purchased” state.
