Hello all, and thank you all so much for helping me diagnose my last issue. However a new day brings a new problem. For whatever reason, )
my car wont take a charge when plugged in. I have included some photos to help diagnose. I searched the archives without luck and tried a few things already as far as making sure better terminal’s were clean and tight, battery voltage was good.
The one photo shows a black screen with the cart plugged in. It normally shows battery status and charge level here
The next photo is with the key in and turn on. This shows 2 green bars left.
The next shows the under hood of the charger status lights, basically everything there is completely illuminated.
I was wondering what happened to you. There were many suggestions to help you out on that last fix, You claimed that it fixed itself after a 24hour sit, then you disappeared. I figured you would be back.
Looking at your problem today, It sure seems like your charger is upset at something. This looks like a charger internal logic board issue. It seems to not be performing it’s boot/self test.
What changed? Has it been raining much more?
Was it plugged during a local lightning strike?
Get under there, pull charger, and pop the lid off. It sounds like it got water in there. Take pictures.
So with your help we were able to not recreate the issue after 2 days, while I cannot be certain to the exact issue it is no longer present and was likely the result of heavy rain.
This is not a week later and everything was working well. Until yesterday evening when we plugged it in and noticed it wasn’t charging or even recognizing the charger as being plugged in. With the plug in the front I can drive the car where normally it wouldnt move since it was charging.
The charger is receiving power as all the LEDs light up on the side when I plug it in, and go out when unplugged.
Batteries are all at good voltage… not sure what to do. Recommendations are greatly appreciated

Take pictures.
Depending on what you see, You might be needing a new one.
Thanks sir, I see they are pretty salty. I found a few on ebay ranging between 500-1000 dollars… I think if it is bad, I will probably convert to Lithium. Specially the Allied one for Gems, unless you all have a better option/ recommendation.
Thank you assyrequired. You’ve helped me tremendously. weather depending I will pull the charger tomorrow and crack into it.
I just bought a 2002 GEM, do I don’t know much except get seem to be eaten up with issues. But, mine came with a Delta Q external charger. I would guess that the one in the car went bad and they just bypassed it. They installed a plug on the interior cowling under the Steering Wheel and connected it to the batteries under the dash. I did something similar to my Club Car golf cart but mounted the charger inside the cart under the driver’s seat. It’s a 6-seater and I had space. When it’s charging you are going to have something plugged into the cart. These chargers appear to be half the cost of the GEm OEMs. And, they can charge Lithium batteries as well as FLA batteries. I’m in the process of building a Lithium battery pack for my CC and if the Gem worked well I’ll probably convert it as well one day. I say this bc it’s another option to consider. You don’t have to use the built in Gem Charger. Now, I’m not sure what that does to the electronics on the GEM as far as the charger readings, but you can add a voltage meter very easily and inexpensively. I can’t wait to get into me GEM.
Well, I finally got time to get the charger off, but i have zero clue what am looking at, other than knowing for certain that it is wet on the inside and there is some corrosion as a result.

There ya go. It’s not as much knowing what you are looking at, but more Important that we are looking at the point of failure.
If it was clean and dry inside, I’d have you do some other diagnostics just to make sure you were heading in the correct direction.
It also happens that Inwo happens to have one that he can set up for you. Looking down the future road, depending on what you were looking for in Lithium, he may be able to program this charger for it.
That is a very good price. Do you have a link? Picture of you charger model number?
I’m not going to steal it, but want to help you find the right charger.
You picture shows a 12v converter built in. That is called a dci model.
DQ model code should be 922-7254-etc. I’m not sure about the model number of the Polaris oem charger. Required to be plug and play.
This charger is not fully compatible with your car. Sure- It can be set up to charge your battery, but does not have the DC Converter output necessary to power your 12v circuits that your car needs to operate. The install instructions when installing the R4F charger have you leaving the DQ charger in place and hooked up. This assumes the DC converter is still working. (which it is for now)
3.) doing a full Allied drop in lithium single pack for approximately 2,200.00
We are not a fan of Allied. They do not have the best reputation for after purchase support. The product is weak, and not fully engineered for use in a Gem. Those that HAVE installed kits from Allied usually have great initial reports but have not reported back in lately. Feel free to do a search here and other cart forums to use in your research. Choose wisely.
But it all depends on what you are expecting to get from your cart.
Well! That didnt work out! I removed the charger and sent it to Flight Systems for repair, and they deemed the charger unrepairable due to acid damage.
So now I am back at square 1 to find an suitable replacement charger that will allow my cart to function.
Did FS send your charger back, or did they keep it?
There were a few options discussed earlier in this post (which you might have missed or ignored). I don’t think anyone suggested sending your charger into Flight Systems.
Some of them require your old charger for exchange. (works best if the harness can be sourced off your old charger and installed on a new charger).
They are preparing it for return. They asked if they should dispose of it and I told them no based on what you told me about the converter still working.
No one suggested it, but they were listed on Delta Qs website as a suggestion for repair so I thought I would give it a shot. I am not very electrically competent (ha!)
I also called Gem Car Parts Direct and received a quote of 2426.38 for a new one…
And called a delta q supplier that directed me to buy 922-7254 for around 1,000.0 dollars, but I am pretty sure this isnt compatible/ plug and play as he suggested.
It is on ebay, sorry for the delay. He has listed 922-7200-04 on his listing but his photos show a different charger. He clarified it is the one photoed and not the one I need! It is still listed on ebay, if you need one.
