Hi! We just got a 2008 E4 and has been previously modified and re-programmed. The current settings are just fine with one person in it but it over-heats too easily with passengers. We are looking for the factory parameters if anyone can help! Thank you.
Someone should have them. Changing computers may have lost my stored files.
What overheats?
What motor?
I have some stock notes. Let me scrounge them up.
I’m guessing you have ability to read your present settings?
Do you know who tweaked your controller?
Define overheating- Controller or Motor?
What motor is in this car?
How long does it take before the warning?
What terrain are you using this car in?
What tires are you using?
Is there thermal paste on the bottom of your controller?
Do you have one of the finned heat sinks on the bottom of your controller?
Does the heat sink have a fan? Is it working?
I also have a theory I am working off the side that may cause a controller to overheat that is not related to settings.
Is it step 2 of 4 by chance?
more rpobable rear dragging brake or tire pressure below 35 psi
The controller is not getting hot, only motor. Previous owner admitted the controller was re-programmed. We would like to get the OEM parameters. It is a 2008 with a t4 controller, 5hp motor.
Do you have the ability to reprogram the controller?
What numbers are in there now?
Turn the field up a couple of numbers.
That’s what I was thinking too, but didn’t want to suggest anything until I saw where he was first.
Do you have tires over 21 inches in diameter?
The min field current is 70, max field current is 55, pedal down field rate is 5, field weakening current is 65, ratio of field to armature is 87. Which one should I adjust? Would prefer OEM numbers. Thank you.
8 max field current is 55, ← Is this a typo?? Should be up around 240~255
I’m not even sure how it would run with this low of a number.
If NOT a typo, then it is good chance this is the cause. The last guy missed it.
Is this a typo as well?
??? Eyes are tired, but still not seeing it.
I rewrote his line to make a little more sense but am I not correct?
I need to look but maximum current can only be 30 amps.
Oh, wait. 255 is a value, sorry.
255 value = what?
No T4 on this spreadsheet, but T5 stock is. Seem to recall they are very similar. T5 was higher amperage for the elxd and e6 iirc.
–begin
FUNCTION 8 MAX FIELD CURRENT
This function allows for the adjustment of the maximum
field current in order to obtain the maximum torque of the
motor.
Range 0 to 30 amps
Set 51 to 255
Resolution 0.147 amps per set unit
Example Setting of 251=(251–51)x0.147
= 30 amps
CAUTION: Do not set this function to a value less than 51.
Important Note: The function is used to optimize motor and
control performance and this setting will be determined by
GE and OEM engineers at the time of vehicle
development. This setting must not be changed by field
personnel without the permission of the OEM.

Yes, 255 is a value.
According to the doc range is 51 to 255. Multiplier is 0.147 amps per set unit so 255 x 0.0147 is 37.4. It sounds like 255 is even high so there is actually a conflict in the doc. Max value should be 251.
JandM just wanted a stock setting. Nowhere in my field notes has found #8 set this low. It looks like his car is running around stuck around Min Field levels?
This is all i have saved in new computer.
MikeKc has my old computer virtual on here. Not sure I’m smart enough to find it.
The T2gem is an oem setting.
Where are files saved in Sentry?
