Help, I just inherited a 2003 GEM, 4 seater… Has Costco batteries in it, but are not holding a charge. I want to replace with the recommended batteries. Any sugggestions on battery type/make/model number and where I can purchase?
What did you end up getting? Are they holding up well?
I ended up with Interstate brand flooded wet cell group 31 industrial batteries for $122 each. That is what they recommended and what they use for all the colleges nearby that use Gem cars.
The cheapest full rated batteries are at Sam’s. Duracell GC12 $184 each. They are made by Penn and are same as Deka GC12V.

I agree with you
I will wait to see how my batteries preform for their lifetime to see if I will replace them with the same or go with GC batts. So far, so good.
Take a look at my youtube on converting a gem car from lead to lithium, just type my company name in the youtube search window voltwagenepc all one word.
Interesting video. Where can I find part two?
currently waiting for new charger and j1772 outlet.
