2000 E 825 hit bump, then quit showing code 42

Hit a bump. Cart quit. Shows 42 code. What to do? Towed home.

Same thing happened to me… Not sure what the 42 code is, but on mine it was a dirty/ loose connection on one of the plug ins to the pwb. Just lift the dash and push/ pull the connectiors. Maybe clean the contacts and see if the problem goes away. Maybe one of the others can chime in on the 42 code.

It ran fine til I hit that bump. I’ll try those connections. Thanks.

Yeah, that’s what I said…after 25 years of dirt and grime and moisture, electrical contacts tend to be an issue.

I have a solution…

I need a solution! Let me know.

Connections ok under dash. Wonder if that bump dislodged the motor brushes?

This is one of those vague codes that sort of hints at possible controller programming error, but since you have not been doing this, the other default suggestion is an internal controller fault.

-42 Motor armature offset voltage is too high.

When does it set this code?

  • Immediate at KeyON?
  • At pedal press?

If you have a handheld meter, I would suggest checking a few things.
Across the top of the controller Pos and Neg.
Result?

Did you ever get the ok on weaponizing space? Lol

At key on OOO. 42, at pedal press. Checked under dash connectors, all tite. Dealer, wants $75 tow, and $95/hr to diagnose. Only paid $1000 for it 10yrs ago!

But wait! There was more!!

I don’t recall asking about dealer diagnostics. But if that is the option you wish to persue, then get that guy on the heater!!

I’m guessing that a brush got displaced hitting that bump.

One brush wouldn’t kill the car, but car would be down on power.
This is something different.

Here’s what happened. The jolt was so severe, the microswitch trip lever bounced over the actuator rod on that white plastic block. Putting it back under the rod cured the problem.

And if you had used my methods, it would habe neen done weeks ago

Hey Cloroform., hes talking about the throtle pedal, not the parking brake …

Don’t the welder pedals use the same type/style microswitch?

Oh … Ok. Well still useful info. Sooner or later his 25 year old car is going to my one…
