I’m seeing these cheap “2.5hp” generator/DC motors on ebay. I bought a few years ago a perm magnet 36v dc motor a few years ago and it was expensive. I was wondering if I could use this “generator” in reverse and power a go cart with it. Will it have enough torque. 2.5HP is 2.5hp no matter which way the motor spins or the current flows, right?
I don’t know If you can get allot of preformance from a 2.5 HP motor, but it should run.
As far as I know, reversing the curent, will reverce the magnetic feild, wich should start the motor rotating in the oposet direction.
This should hold true so long as the motor is shunt-wound not series-wound.
