I installed new batteries from big battery, the 72 falcons … I have no speed or power… a friend of of mine said the accelerator pedal may need to be changed… any ideas? It has been sitting for several years … it has a new motor from ride for fun . I would hate to just park it again
It’s possible that it’s the accelerator, but more likely the problem lies with the batteries. They just aren’t the right fit for a GEM. I’m not even sure if the GEM charger can charge them properly / fully.
Those 72V Falcons are 28Ah batteries with a max discharge rate of 80A. You need around 175-200A to launch a GEM from a dead stop. Maybe 150A if you roll on the throttle really slow. I’ve seen just shy of 300A on my BMS display on a hard launch in my 2010 eL w/ custom 2p22s chevy volt lithium pack.
Honestly, if you can return them, I would, For around the same $2500 or so that you paid, you can get an Samsung SDI pack with over 3x the power of the BB Falcon 72s. It will be like shoving a rocket up the arse end of your GEM.
I can test throttles and replace pot box if needed for $300.
Rodney tests and cleans them for less, I believe. @Old_Houseboater
Also Byron. @AssyRequired maybe fore less $$$
First, you need to tell us more about your car.
How long have you had it?
Who installed the batteries?
I see that it has been sitting for several years. Is this new R4F motor a recent install?
→ or was it in the car as it was sitting?
Does anything light up on this car?
Ie- Dash? Headlights? Wipers?
When Main power Switch is ON, KeyOFF, and Brake dropped(released), Does the car produce a steady Beeeeep?
Do you have a meter? and able to test a few locations?
Don’t let your friend near the car.
Depending on how you answer these first questions, It will direct where to look next.
Spoiler alert.
Controller p7 tells the story.
