No DH on GEM 2005 e4

Bought this GEM and after running fine for a couple days, the batteries promptly died. Replaced batteries and the car runs but only in low gear (DL). Switching to DH gives a brief spurt of power and then drops back to low, and a white square illuminates around each DH, DL and Reverse.

Could I have wired something incorrectly? Thanks for any help.

Check the voltage. If lower than 72 volts you’ve got something wired back-to-front. Look at the labels on each of the cables by pulling back the rubber covers. It tells you which battery number and positive or negative each end of the cable goes to. I suspect you have one battery in backward.
