New project

I have a proof of concept working.
Took a couple tries to debug program and get it interfaced properly.
Grant will recognize my work.

Right now itā€™s same as magnet fix, but now that it tests out, I can reprogram to do better.

Works so well, Iā€™m going to leave the prototype connected. That extra 5mph lets me keep up with traffic.

With my 12/1 gears it needs a rev limiter to protect motor. Easy to do.
For now Iā€™ll just keep my speed under 30.

See pictures! Itā€™s that easy. Plug and play.
Iā€™m a better hacker than photographer.:o

Gemspeed.2 ready to test tomorrow.
Partial speedometer fix.
Switchable stock/overdrive.

Target < $50
Plug-in.

David looks great I canā€™t wait to hear how it works out let us all know

So this plugs into a modern (2008 -2015) GEM to give it a modest bump in speed up to 5mph for $50? If so, sign me up!

Not yet ready for prime time.

Iā€™ll know more later today, after some doctor appointments.

Must have been high after some promising tests yesterday.

Test went well first try. 90% of what I expected.

This may not be for everyone.

Not a speed increase. It only takes the brakes off top end.

Does your Gem hit the wall at 25-26mph?

Speedometer accurate to 22 mph.

On the plus side hitting target price is not an issue.

Rodney or Grant may test, and see if Iā€™m on the right track.
Iā€™m kind of full of myself right now!

Grant, what do you think of my enclosure?

Stage 2 still working tonight.

On to stage 3:

Parts are ordered. Ready to test by this weekend.
This one will be field programmable speed increase.
10% 20% etc.

Then Iā€™ll need opinions on which way to go.

Almost ready for prime time.
Grant has volunteered to test.
This one-off seems ready to ship. Keep making last minute changes.

ver.3 gives ~ 20% boost in speed limit . Not field programmable. Set up per customer request. 1/16 to 15/16 This one is 13/16. ie. 13mph reading is actually 16mph.

12/1 gears and stock tires runs ~ 5600 rpm max. (limited)
Acc. tach plug.

Update for Grant.

The ver.3 is ready to ship. :flypig:

Ver.2 has a glitch on the ā€œtach outputā€ circuit.

Glad I caught it. Dead battery to aux. tach display inhibits signal to car. Car errors out.
Itā€™s nice that itā€™s removable in the dark.

Test it again tomorrow after reconfigure.
Thinking now, to do more testing, and wait til after Xmas rush at USPS.

Good tests today.

Ver2, ver3, and tach are in the mail.

Ver3 needs no adjustment. Raises speed limit ~20%
Limit still in play.

Ver2 has pot to adjust speedometer changeover point.

I have it set to about 22mph. There is no limit unless it is adjusted above 25mph. This could be done remotely or with a switch.
Speedometer is correct to set point.

Should have more information later this week.

Could possibly have a couple hand-made units ready to ship by next week.

Still testing, so money back after evaluation is fine.

Test went well.

The electronic motor magnet modification, works stand-alone for speed increase, or with options.

Got a few samples of accessory products today.
Here is a Tachometer, Speedometer, Motor temp display.

And mock-up of a Tach, Speedo, with Rodneyā€™s volt/amp meter.

The tach and speedometer would plug into pre-programmed circuit board.
Temperature unit comes with sensor.
Volt/Amp needs wiring to battery and 12v auxiliary power from inverter.
Rodney knows all the doā€™s and donā€™ts to make this a nice option.

New today: Mini tach/ hour meter.
Can also be configured to show speed.
Or use two.

Working on switchable between tach and speedometer.

This is an accessory to speed board for T4.

It can also work stand alone to show speed data in most cars with motor sensor.

Hacked from common small engine tach.

From some of the mod threads on forum, I expected more interest.

Could be a lack of communication on my part. :o
Or because it canā€™t compete with RFF complete service.

If all goes well, circuit boards will be in this week.

There will then be 10 devices available for customized build.

The self powered tach shown in last post, will plug in with no wiring, or programming needed.

Offered alone or with motor speed limit board. Also plug and play.

Here is hacked hour-meter/tachometer in action.
Just the top showing 6,000 rpm. Tested to 12,000 rpm.
This will work on any motor using hall sensor, not just Gems.

Rodney, this is self powered. No isolation problems.
It does need divide-by-n circuit to show rpm and mph.

Grant, is this better than big led version?
No progress with cheap wireless bicycle computer. Erratic!:frowning:
If you return early version, Iā€™ll get you an update.

Almost ready for prime time.:clap2:

Should I package with two or figure out a switch?
