Oh, cool, gemcarpartsdirect has the parts pdf for the 2006 on their site, chopped up into chapters / sections.
The rotors are under “Suspension”
Looks like the rotor size was determined by the tire wheel rim diameter the vehicle originally shipped with. And in this case, the 2006 & 2007 part numbers are the same.
I’ve used a few other parts sites / suppliers out there to track down part numbers for my eM and TBH, all of them are kind of kludgy or PITAs to use. They all suck, some just suck less.
I was able to measure the rotors (discs) and could identify them, diameter is 9.21" or 23.4 mm. Part # 0311-01360. The GEM came originally with 12" Tires/rims.
The caliper part # is 0111-02365, also shown on a sticker. There was an rebuild kit available also ( # 1211-00091 ). Can’t find it so far.
In my experience, searching for older GEM parts with the Polaris part number can be very hit and miss. A lot of the “finds” weren’t. The vendor was just rehashing the Polaris database and having orders drop shipped by Polaris. Which doesn’t work very well when Polaris’s inventory was long since depleted and for whatever reason out of hundreds of valid reasons, they never re-stocked.
Ebay is, unfortunately, probably your best bet at this time. I have had decent luck there with less specific search terms, sometimes even intentionally using “not quite the proper part name” or even intentionally misspelling part names, Seems that a number of vendors today that have old GEM parts, don’t know what they actually are or don’t know the names of the various model releases of the vehicles or what years parts changed or they are just cutting and pasting or using reverse image search to identify a part. Showing photos that are a different part or are taken from a useless perspective point or shot with a camera that had it’s lens optic glass cleaned with 320 grit sand paper. Or they couldn’t turn on the lights in the room when the photo was taken so the zombies could find them and then eat their brains. Verifying that the part is compatible is your problem there.
Searched “GEM Brake Caliper” on eBay. Everything comes up, but first listed item kind of looks like what I remember the calipers on the 2010 eL looking like, Then a lot of parts that aren’t for your but a page or two down, “Gem Loaded Brake Caliper Set (05-12)” but maybe the photo seems off… The seller is NEV-Accessories, they are a big independent parts vendor in Arizona. They have the same part on their website. And now, I remember why the photo looks off… Six years ago I was looking for front disc pads for my 2010 eL and I called them, I’d used them before a number of times. Asked if they had the pads, they told me that those parts had been unobtainable for a few years, GEM ran out, but they were getting so many requests for the 2005-2011 brake parts they were considering having a run of them made for them. Looks like they finally did. If so, their calipers may actually be slightly different, to avoid legal issues associated with directly copying a part, if you contact them, they tend to actually respond, and it’s usually not just someone reading a computer screen. In the past, what they told me was that just about everyone who worked there also worked on GEMs or VW Things or both. Customers and/or their own GEM or Things.
The Polaris part number and long name bring up nothing on their site, but they use their own part numbers and while their website has gotten better, it still levees much to be desired, Sometimes there isn’t even a description of what the item is and the name it’s listed under is what a mechanic may call it, and not anything like the name that the engineers and technical writes at Polaris would call it. You may have to get creative with searches or just contact them to find something. Also, in the past, they often had a lot of stuff that was not listed on the website that you could ask for: used parts pulled from retired GEMs or some odd and uncommon part may have a few of on the shelf but why bother listing something that most people would never need or even know about.
Started to take the front end apart. The plan is, to remove the rusty front sub frame for sand blasting and powder coating. Nice work, I’ve to fight with every bolt… Motor came out today and I’ll need a new input shaft for sure. Have some parts from NEV on the way ( a-arm ball joints, brake calipers, steering rack boots). Unfortunately they doesn’t have the input shaft ( is this a 12.44 gear ratio? ), the Dana sticker on the housing is gone.
?if the IS of the Ezgo TXT w. Dana 12.44:1 transaxle is compatible
Possibly, but carts are usually geared different (slower speeds and little tires)
You can manually/physically count the ratio by turning the input shaft and observing how many times it takes for the input shaft to go round-round to make the axle shafts to make one revolution.
The tricky part is doing an accurate count.
I use a sharpie to mark the shaft on the case. Do this to all 3 shafts.
Remember that the outputs have a differential so they both need to do one full revolution.
12 and (almost) a half turns of the input shaft will be 12.44.
Follow?
Earlier this year, it appeared that R$F stocks at least some replacement input shaft kits.
The 8.9:1 and the 10.35:1 use the same input shaft which has a 27-tooth helix gear.
The 12.44:1 uses an input shaft that has a 21-tooth gear.
You’'ll probably have to contact them for the kit. And, be advised that dealing with Bob and his Oompa-Loompas is often somewhat the opposite experience of working with the staff at NEV-Accessories…
Ok, I’ve made the test, result: 15 revolutions of the IS = 1 rev of the (right) half shaft!? For further investigation, i pulled (easy) out the IS and compared / measured it with a IS of my Ezgo Rxv golf cart. Both are pretty identical, except of the gear and a slightly different length. Both bearings are the same, also the bearing positions. 19 tooth on the coupler side ( both ), 21 tooth on the GEM gear.
So it would be much easier and also cheaper to look for an Ezgo part than for the rare and expensive GEM part!?
Thank you, but I think I’ve SOLVED the problem. As I’ve suggested, the input shaft for an Ezgo TXT is exact the same part and there are millions available everywhere. No need to buy a OEM GEM IS in this case. 12.44:1 ratio, 21 tooth / 19 spline and same dimensions ( see screenshot ). I’ve just ordered one for about 60 $ only!
The kit comes with the shaft, o-ring, c-clamp + seal.
