Will a 7 hp motor out of a 2010 fit in a 2002
It may be too long. Someone else may know for sure. If not, I will measure a GE 7hp that I have on the shelf.
Bingo.
Comments below are just for DC motors, mainly just the commonly found ones for GEMs that are drop-in upgrades / swaps for the 99-04 GEMs.
(although with a saw or plasma cutter, a welder and a big enough hammer, you can fabricobble just about anything in)
The 00-04 will only work with the short length motors, because the diff/ gears is centerlined. The 3hp, the “short GE 5hp” that started being installed in 02 and Eben went into some 05s. D&D motor systems makes a “short blue 5” which is also rebranded and sold dy R$F as the 00-04 upgrade motor. That’s about it.
The “long GE 5” with the cooling holes and clamp band to allow easy acces to the brushes, the GE7, the AMD black 7, the blue 7.5 - none of these will fit 00-04 They end up blocking the steeriing rack and the bearing / fan end ends up almost in the front tire.
In 2005 the moved the diff / gears housing over to one side, ti allow the longer motors to fit and the half hafts are two different lengths from 05 onwards
As I recall the new 2016 ac motors fit the 2002 Gems. Mikekc did most of the legwork on our ac conversions.
I have never looked into AC motor conversions for the very early GEMs (circa 99-04) so I can offer no info regarding converting that chassis. My contributions to upgrading the 99-04 GEMs was with you on testing mixed battery technologies adding a small LFP4 pack (it was a 4s1P or 5s1p green cells) as a “7th battery” to an FLA based cart and then again with you on what became the Mighty Mite - custom 20s1p (or was it 22s?) Samsung SDI based pack sitting up front completely over the diff & motor where the #1 & #2 FLAs were originally located.
And, of course the infamous 4-step program to help people move past the 00-04 era and let go of these older badly desgned shytboxes from that era and step up to the next gen or beyond GEMs.
