Just bought a 2002 e4 to make another parade float. I was considering Li batteries but not liking the cost. I will only use the thing for a few hours each parade and only 2-5 parades a year.
I don’t need to go 20 miles or drive fast. It will have to power the programmable LEDs and the motor.. Suggestions?
I got two 72v lifepo4 batteries from China, advertised as 50ah ( BMS shows 60ah ). These batteries were about 400 $ a piece. Could be enough for your purposes.
Thank you,
but I think I want to stick with around 100AH.. just in case.. I don’t know the lighting load yet since the concept image will most likely not be anywhere close to the amount of lights..
Now that I have secured a donor car I can show what I plan on doing.
Craig, something that has been a bane to the 00-04 frames is the fact that they need about 110-120 lbs of weight over the front wheels for steering and traction. For you, this may be perfect, because for what this build is going to do, you don’t a big pack. You aren’t running fir a long drive, and you aren’t going to run fast. All you are going to fight is the extra weight and you’ll gain a completely empty chassis from the dash back
Many years ago, I helped Dave (inwo) out a bit with some measurements and sent him the battery tray that sits over the front wheels from my old 2002 when I parted it out, so he could come up with a drop in an nmc 20s pack (I think it was 20s). . I don’t know if there are any left though.
