Larger Rims On Gem From Automobile?

Patch

This is an old thread. Best you start a new one.

I was easily able to fit 17 inch rims on my 2012 e4 just by cutting the front fenders back 2 inches.

Big tires and wheels reduce acceleration and affect braking capacity in a big way.

How about speed up hills?

@Old_Houseboater @Nrapp33 I fitted a forklift controller and an 11 horsepower motor. It gets up to 40 mph easily and a forklift controller I also fitted makes the speedometer able to read up to 60. I also fitted sport gears from a racing company that makes them for cars. I also replaced all the brakes with Toyota Corolla disc brakes. With the better gears and bigger motor it does great uphill.

Hi nice reading do you have a name or link for that controller ? also if you have pictures of brakes
thanks

I guess what I was really asking was how do larger wheels effect a stock GEM uphill? I have the best 165/70-12s on mine (21" diameter) and wondering if I go to larger overall diameter? If I go to 22-23".

@Nrapp33 I am not exactly sure how the performance will be affected in a stock gen with larger wheels. @Gem_e2 I am on vacation but I will try to get you pictures as soon as I can.

I just realized they were not the Toyota brakes for the wgole system, they were just Toyota brake pads because they had more meat and lasted longer. Working on finding the controller.

I believe this is the controller. http://www.forklift-electronics.com/GEMT4.html

@Gem_e2 @Nrapp33 Sorry. For the speedometer I was thinking of my old one. Now, I could not figure out how I did it so I just made it so the speed we are going is actually twice plus a little than what is on the display. Since it is a forklift controller, it counts hours and not miles so the display says it has 40,000 miles but that is actually 40,000 hours. Sadly, when it is charging or even idle without the main kilswich off it still counts hours.

These are the low profile car tires and rims I have fitted. If you want to learn more about it, see more of it, and suggest anything I should do to it, I just started another topic. it also has under glow.

Arichmond how much was the controller and what 11hp motor do you go with? From what company?

Iā€™m pretty sure Iā€™ve seen your golf cart for sale on Craigslist. 13k is that you.

@Troyin909 yes. I was laid off and had to sell it but then I luckily was rehired for some odd reason and was able to keep it. I will be able to give you that information on March 4th. That is when I am getting back from vacation. Sorry for the inconvenience. If you have any other questions just ask and I will be able to answer them then. Iā€™m pretty sure the controller is a modified electric Clark forklift controller.

Iā€™m running 13" Konig wheels from an early '90s Honda Civic with 175 70/13 tires on my stock '08 e2. Diameter is approx 22.5". I still bump the speed limiter on moderate hills with my tired batteries, just takes more time to get there. Gained about 3 mph by GPS.
These wheels have 38 offset vs stock GEM 0 offset. I have a 1" spacer with bolts on each rear to center tire in fender and no spacers up front. No rubbing.
These wheels have both 4x100mm and 4x4" bolt holes. They work on the front GEM 4x4" pattern and the 4x100 spacers on the rear.

If you want more room for front tires, it is easier to move the front sub-frame ahead than redo fenders. Looks better too.
