RE who carries your other insurance… car home… boat? … you should be able to great a real deal on a ‘wrap around’ policy… I know that my GEM filled in the void of my '51 in a ‘two car and house’ policy… I also have a ‘low mile’ policy on the GEM
Scott@thuminsurance.com> E-mail this insurance agent for Gem Cars if you need him to draw up the coverage from the company. Don’t wast time hunting down the big name insurance companies you’ll just be rejected and or priced too much.
oh ok. but I think $200 per year for fulll coverage is a good deal from American Modern Insurance Group. If they cover in your state you can cover just the GEM and keep your other insurance.
I recently bought a used GEM and am having difficulty with my insurance company. For example, they want my wife and I to take a motorcycle safety class. (Every motorcycle safety class that I have found requires you to ride a motorcycle). Specifically, what company do you recomend, and how does the underwriter handle, vehicle classification, purchase price, and annual milage? I need to drive the GEM on public roads. (speed limit less than 35 of course)
Try Progressive !! I live in Alabama and got liability only for only $75 a year from Progressive!
Progressive, Geico, Allstate, Stateform will nor cover a GEM car in Louisiana and most states. So all these people stating you got insurance with these people good for you! Now if you want coverage when all the above try to jack you then check out as stated.
If you’re driving a GEM car with just liability insurance. Please don’t try to advise me. How much damage can you case with a GEM. One must cover his or her own a$$. Get full coverage if you drive a GEM car plain and simple. You are fresh meat on the road when driving a GEM car. Cover yourself from people who don’t carry enough insurance to cover the massave damage you will suffer in a accident> All you people trying to advise check yourself ! I’m not playing with you just because this is a post reply !
When looking for insurance, and when giving your personal experiences with your preferred insurance carrier keep in mind that different states have different rules for coverages and varying prices, even different locations in the same state will vary. Your own personal driving record, how many other policies you hold with them and other factors will also affect the price. Some companies will provide coverage in one state but not another.
If you are looking around just be sure to do your homework. Start with the company you have the most policies with (I personally use State Farm for everything including my Gem) then check the others to be sure you are getting a fair deal. :yo:
RE and others in Fla… this was a story posted on FB today by Villages Golf Cart Man, LLC… not sure if it is only the Villages or state wide… I think it really stems from trying to turn a golf cart into a ‘car’… my car is licensed and I must abide by the laws of the road… I must have wipers… lites… horn and a VIN… when I was thinking about getting thye GEM i checked with my insurance carrier to be sure I could get a policy…
Well that is too bad the insurance companies have raised rates in Florida on LSV’s. Unfortunately cost are usually dictated by the losses the insurance company experiences with a particular type of vehicle. One thing is for sure, if you are driving a cart/LSV on public roads you better have some insurance. I would even if it was not mandated. If you were to get sued the cost would be far more than yearly premiums.
As far as the reason of fixed incomes as leverage to make a new law to allow modification to limit the speed, I can’t agree with that. Driving in general is a privilege and there is a cost associated with it. If you cannot afford a cart/LSV then I suppose you shouldn’t own one. Also, I don’t know how they would confirm people kept their LSV’s limited. After the inspection one could remove the limiter till the next inspection.
I personally would not want to live in an area where no/under insured vehicles were driving around me.
