MANAGING THREADS

In this section you will learn how to use the “Thread Tools” menu to manage various tasks from within threads on the forum.

With Thread Tools you can manage the following tasks:[ul]
[li]Close Thread – which closes the thread down so no more posts can be made.
[/li][li]Move Thread – which moves the whole thread from one forum to another
[/li][li]Copy Thread – to duplicate the entire thread
[/li][li]Edit Thread – mainly used to rename the thread
[/li][li]Delete Thread – to remove the entire thread
[/li][li]Stick / Unstick Thread – to make threads appear or disappear from the top of the forum
[/li][li]Merge Threads – To merge the posts of 2 threads into 1 thread
[/li][li]Add a Poll – Adding polls to threads[/ul]ACTIONS REQUIRED to use thread tools[ul]
[/li][li]Click through into the relevant thread that you want to manage.
[/li][li]Located under the large title of the thread – before the post starts – is a drop down menu which reads “Thread Tools”. Click on this – shown below.[/ul]

CLOSE THREAD

You may wish to close a thread if you want to stop the discussion. The Close Thread option basically locks it down so that no more posts can be made. You can always unlock a thread after it has been locked in the future.[ul]
[li]Click on the Thread Tools menu as shown above
[/li][li]Then select the Close Thread radio button option in the menu. Then click the Perform Action button. See below.[/ul]
[/li] MOVE THREAD

If the thread has been made in the wrong forum you can use this option to move it to the correct place. You may also want to move Sales / Promotional posts made by premium members in the non sales area of the forum into the sales section.[ul]
[li]Click on the Thread Tools menu as shown above
[/li][li]Then select the Move Thread radio button option in the menu then click the Perform Action button. You are shown this screen next.[/ul][ul]
[/li][li]You are then given the option to rename the thread title if you want
[/li][li]You then need to choose the new destination forum from the drop down menu.
[/li][li]You can then choose whether or not to leave a redirect link in the current forum to the new forum where the thread has been moved.
[/li][li]After selecting these options you need to click the Move Thread button[/ul]EDIT THREAD
[/li] Use the Edit Thread option to rename the thread title to something better and more descriptive. You may need to correct spelling errors sometimes.

DELETE THREAD
Use the Delete Thread option to remove the whole thread from the forum. Please put in a reason for the deletion.

STICK THREAD / UNSTICK THREAD
Use this option to make the thread jump to the top of the list above all the other threads in the forum. If you want to promote discussion and views on a particular thread then Sticking a thread is the best option.

MERGE THREAD
Use this option if you want to merge the current thread into another thread. This is handy to do when you have multiple threads on the same topic that should be merged together.[ul]
[li] Firstly go into the thread you want to merge the current thread INTO - the “recipient” thread. Copy the URL in your address bar. The URL is the website address higlighted in the graphic below. You will use this later in the process below:[/ul][ul]
[/li][li]Click on the Thread Tools menu within the thread that you now want to merge.
[/li][li]Then select the Merge Thread radio button option in the menu then click the Perform Action button. You are shown this screen next.[/ul][ul]
[/li][li]Then Paste in the URL you copied at the beginning as shown by the red arrow above
[/li][li]Then click on the Merge Threads button[/ul]ADD A POLL
[/li] Use this option when you think a thread would be better with a poll added to it.
