Most battery connection failures are the result of loose or dirty connections. The connector may be loose at the battery or loose where the wire is crimped. I have found the orange battery cables GEM uses to be very good quality. RFF chargers, made by Quick Charge, are known to be high quality. A charger is not likely to cause a battery connection failure.
Oops, my bad. My batteries have a combination terminal.
To save the battery: You can grind the damage away and drill a 7/32 hole in the remaining tab, and tap it out 5/16 You will need 2 taps. a starting tap and a tap with the taper cut off for a “bottom” tap. Drill the hole until you hit plastic and tap the first tap in as far as it will go. Then tap it down to the bottom with the 2nd tap. Use 5/6 X1/2 or 3/4 Hex Head Cap screw to make a good connection. you may need a few washers to take up the slack. Tight means snug - not twist off the bolt tight. Feel all your connections after a mile run they should NOT be hot…
BTW I believe your grinding problem is a seperate issue.
NOTE: Is this a recent install? if it is I would ask the installer what he is going to do for you. If not your probably onyour own.
Ok so I used number cables to close the circuit and it got the cart home and I believe it will help me keep the batteries healthy as well. I checked the motor and it is still grinding. It may be going out. I have the front wheels off again and I may just start working on the cart again.
Can you pop off the old battery connector and replace it with a new screw on stem?
Hope this helps others who may have the same problem.
