Hello all,I am trying to help a neighbor with his older gem car. Parking brake light on dash will not go out. Micro switch test good at break lever. Help, anything else I need to check. Thank you in advance
Also after messing with the micro switch,I got another issue. When I was activating the switch,I kept hearing a click under the dash. Now the cart won’t activate at all. Dash comes on,but no pedal activation.
This recent post of yours is confusing on a couple of levels.
Please expand on your issue.
First, the Park Brake light on your display remained ON, but did the car actually run at that time?
You also claim the Micro switch at the brake lever tested good.
How exactly did you perform this test? (what did you do?)
adding to sequence of events, you kept going back to the switch?
Also after messing with the micro switch, I got another issue.

What changed? Did you remove/rearrange the wires?
There is much chat about your issue in the archives. One of these days I might have to sort them all out and create a troubleshooting guide.
Step1 - Hand Brake Loop Test
-
Verify that the car is not plugged in and charging. Is the interlock active? As stupid as this sounds, This happened twice last week to people I have been coaching. The car won’t do much if it is plugged in.
-
Next step is ALWAYS verify the handbrake safety loop is active. If car does not do this, - don’t even try to continue.
→ MainBattSw ON, KeyOFF, Drop Brake - This sequence should produce a steady beep. You can’t really miss it. It is somewhere between ear splitting and nails on a chalkboard.
Does it beep?
Verify(Y/N)?
Three ways to silence beep
- KeyON
- lift brake handle.
- MainBattSwOFF
Verify(Y/N?)
Your response/result will direct next set of instructions.
I believe low brake fluid in the master cylinder will cause the brake light on the dash to illuminate.
I believe low brake fluid
Y- I was getting to this possibility, but I was trying to teach something to fasty here. It was unclear if the car works or not and didn’t want to confuse the facts. It depends on if the car works or not. It sounds like he just broke the car messing with the switch.
Then you just go and skip to the back of the book here.
The vehicle was performing properly, but the brake light remained on the dash. Tested the micro switch with a multi meter,it is opening and closing. Yes,I do come here when I need help with these vehicles, and I appreciate the help! It is possible the wires got hooked up wrong at the micro switch when testing. Do you have a diagram the shows exactly how it goes back? I will do this test this morning and respond back. You mentioned my history on this page. I wanted to let you know that the problem you were helping me with before on my personal gem still is an issue. Took it to a shop, and they still can’t figure it out lol
What I was after → there appeared to be a change between the first and second post.
- Your first post the car still drove.
- The second post you said:
Also after messing with the micro switch, I got another issue. Now the cart won’t activate at all. Dash comes on, but no pedal activation.
Now- Are you saying the car is working again?
====
This reminds me of the old joke about the guy that comes into the doctor and says "It hurts when I do this… "
Then, stop doing that.
Cart isn’t running now or even firing the solenoid
Sooo…
What are results of the handbrake loop test I posted above?
Hey assy… Not meaning to confuse the issue, but. F.Y.I. That buzzer with key on brake down only happens in street mode and is silent in turf mode. ( Probably for the golfers). On my model… Have a nice day…
I think you mentioned this before. I will need to try this on a few other cars and see if I can duplicate your observation. On my 09 (Gen2) it makes no difference what drive setting it is on. The Key is off and controller logic not booted at this point, so it wouldn’t know/care.
I’ll test this out on a few Gen1 cars and change the instruction as needed.
The wiring is different on Gen1 cars. The pre-charge and boot happens as soon as the MainBattSw is set to ON. Your findings may be an unintended quirk.
I don’t quite get your thought that it would need to be shut off for golfers. Since this is the “Brake Not Set, Your Car May Roll Away” warning, I would think they would benefit from such a warning too.
Cause golfers are quick stop and go and don’t always want to take time to shut things down and the buzzer is annoying
It was low,so I topped it off. No change still. I have to run another test still
Vehicle isn’t plugged in,key off, main breaker on and hand brake down, no buzz and no run. I did ck the contractor which has an orange wire and black wire. No power found when vehicle is on and pedal is pressed. These are the small terminal wires at the contractor/solenoid.

This is what I asked for. I can work with this.

THIS, I did not ask for. As a matter of fact, I specifically instructed you to stop right there. This is also what is getting you into trouble. When you wander off and do crazy things, I have to backtrack, figure out what you did, and start all over. Don’t do this. Stick with the step-by-step instructions unless you know what you are doing.
[cut paste from above instructions]
Next step is ALWAYS verify the handbrake safety loop is active. If car does not do this, - don’t even try to continue.
Are you with me ?
Yes,I am # with you. Tools are down, sorry.
Back up a bit.
When you were messing with the handbrake switch the second time and it stopped working, Did you pull them off the tabs?
If so, Verify that you put them back on the correct tabs. They should be on the top two tabs. The tab that is offset by itself and and the next one down on the side.
Confirm(Y/N?)
They were pulled off.The wires are in the correct position right now.
K- Now do the handbrake test again.
Does it now beep?
I have no beep at this time. Dash comes on,but no activation
