is there a maintenance period for changing the gear oil ? is it a 30 wgt engine oil? and is there fill and drain plug ?

I have a 2010 E4. The owners manual says nothing about lubrication anywhere. I can get to some of the obvious places, but I am concerned about the trans axle and diffirencle. Any info would be appreciated. TIA Gary

How much Gear Oil does the Transmission take?

I just changed the fluid in my 08 E4 a couple weeks ago. I have to be honest and say I did not measure the amount removed or the amount added. I used a power oil extraction pump (we use on our boat) to pull as much oil as possible out from the rubber drain/fill hole, then refilled until it ran out the same hole. I must say it did not seem like it was 12oz, it seemed less but again I have not real idea. Well that was about worthless info now that I typed it…

This is for 2016 and newer models

Suck out as much as you can and refill with 80/90 gear oil. until it starts to tun out of the fill hole. Unless you develop a leak there is no change out period. Lasts the life of the vehicle,
