Front mount battery in early Gem

Y- Black wires are B- [pack NEG].
B+ [Pack POS] will be the first battery in the chain. In the twin box setup(I think you are using) the B+ will be in the other box.

Check it with your meter.
If you have not done so yet-
You will need to boot up your BMS and switch on the DIS Fets via App to get any output through the BMS.

Thank you, yes I’m using the twin boxes as pictured in this conversation. I have numbered my batteries and inserted them exactly as INWO has presented them here. I have not connected the batteries together yet. I’m trying to figure out where to drill the hole in the box for the positive wire outlet
Regarding this sentence:
“You will need to boot up your BMS and switch on the DIS Fets via App to get any output through the BMS.”
I’m a real novice, I have no knowledge of an App for the BMS, this is the first time I’ve heard about that requirement. Also I have no idea what “DIS Fets” is.
Don’t get me wrong, I really appreciate the direction, I’m just not aware. Thx again

Positive comes direct from battery #22 +.
Blue wire from bms connects to battery #1 -.
Black from bms sticks out of box anywhere for Gem neg cable to connect.
In other words, the negative from battery feeds the Gem through bms. Bms is a switch that can turn off the battery neg.

This is my 10s negative/bms side.

Top left of picture is pos of this 1/2. A cable connects to neg of other 1/2.

I see that you have shielded the cable coming off battery #10+. Is that due to heat? or something else.

No just shrink tubing for terminal. I may not have used it on yours. Only for a clean look after shrinking it.

My 1/2 inch thick foam blocking can be any material. Multiple sheets of coroplast or even masonite.I used plastic spacers on this one rather than kapton tape.
I have some extra, but no room on the other side. 12 cells are tight.

I would like to change the battery order in the box of 12. I see in the box of 10 the order goes from top to bottom, then over and back up. The box of 12 order goes left to right, down and right to left, etc. I’d like to change the box 12 order to the box 10 example. That would put my battery #22 in a better position for cabling. Is there any issue with that application? Thx

Whoops, I see the issue with changing the order in the 12 box. Never mind.

I have not connected the batteries together yet

Apologies, I assumed you were farther along in your build and hooking this up to your car. My instructions will come into play later.

Thank you, you guys are the best. Much appreciated. Dan

No problem changing order. Mine was not perfect and needed a long B+ wire.

Also the series connection between boxes is a pita. It could be routed externally.

Before you get too far along, some tips.
The screws in back plate will damage cells. I removed them. There should be room for an added layer of coroplast cushion if you prefer.

Test fit boxes and fasten them together. I used two sided vhb tape and screws along the edge. The extreme corners are strong and can be used for a couple screws.

Drill holes between boxes for bms wires and the series cable connecting 10 cell side to 12 cell side.

I drilled both holes near the corner of cell #10 +. Keeping holes in the perimeter space of the 12 cell box. About 1/2" space around cells.

Keeping holes in the perimeter space of the 12 cell box. About 1/2" space around cells.

I see this also. If you have 1/2 in along the edges that would make for a couple of good cable runs between the two cases if you leave a gap in the insulation material.

Peel out what need to go to the other side and put a dot code (or something) on the balance wires for ID. Tape this group to a bamboo skewer and fish them through the hole when ready to wire them up. Double check the pins before before plugging the header into the BMS to make sure you got them in the correct order.

What if he doesn’t have a bamboo skewer?

What if he only has a metal skewers?

I like it.
About ~120 lbs?

Would there be an advantage to bring the LED light out for visual status check?
I am a fan of fiber optics. Might be unnecessary if front cover will open up to check or press boot button.

Do you have 22 cells there?
A local to you needs one of these front mount batteries and I’m not hip to shipping fedex.
He may wait for George. Don’t know. Seems you are following this build closely.
Name Evan, may not be a member here.
Are you up for it?

Actually- yes.
Your WCoast warehouse has 2 boxes in stock. I haven’t done anything with them yet.
(How many cells in each box?)
I was about to pull the trigger on a pair of those plastic lunchboxes since it looks like they are working out.
I also have two of last years version of the JK (non display version?).

How soon is he looking to have this done?
