I’m thinking about a low cost option. Is there anything special on the 12v lines that needs to run? lights, radio, wipers, and key. What doesn’t need to be switched? Seems like they all do. How many watts is the OEM?

I think the only thing that needs 12v constant is the Key loop.
It could be done with a single output converter and a couple of relays (which you will need anyway - One to switch the controller ON/Off, and one to send 12v (now switched) to the accessories on the fuse block.
I purchased a used one on ebay. It is a drop in replacement.

Direct Surepower unit replacement is the better option in your case.
This time, check output on the orange wire(at the timer), then also on the Key wire (KeyON) to make sure it is at 12v. Then connect the interlock wires together and see if the Key Relay and timer still functions.
You may still need to replace those.
