Dead auxiliary battery

The auxiliary battery in the dash went dead again after sitting for a few days. The car has been plugged in and the traction batteries are fine 12+ volts each. Key out of the ignition. Any thoughts?? Thanks 2017 GEM

Loose or bad 12v dc converter. Loose or bad 12v battery relay.
Test 12v battery voltage with key on versus key off.

Awesome thanks! Where can I find a parts schematic for this thing? I’m really unfamiliar with these and need to find the parts you are speaking of to check them. Thanks

  1. Try and keep to using only one thread with your issue. It is very difficult to follow what is going on when you scatter around like you are.

  2. Did you replace that battery with a new one? Or did you just charge up the one that was there?

Oh my bad I didn’t realize I was on more than one. I just charged it. It’s a 2022 battery. Thanks

Man when I got the aux batt recharged I put it in everything came on but the traction batteries are reading low on the gauge. I plugged it up and a C appeared on the display showing its charging. It had been plugged in for a week. So both batteries went dead some how.

How did you view that the batteries were actually taking a charge?
(besides the dash)
You are having so many problems that you need to verify that the charger is actually finishing a cycle. It probably finished within a day.

If it had a fault(charger error), leaving the car on charge will do nothing.

It’s a 2022 battery.

You also put faith in a two (possibly three?) year old 12v aux battery that you found very depleted, managed to get some sort of charge into it, (but did not say if you load tested it), and are assuming it is fine?

It sounds like it has volts, just no capacity.
Try it again. Load test it, just to see if it is not still a battery issue.

Thanks so much.i did not load test it.

back info for my problem. when I got it from my friend he had it plugged for days but it wouldn’t work. that’s when I found the dead aux batt. during that time I checked the traction batteries with a multimeter they were full. charged the aux batt everthing came on and display read full charge. I went out of town for a few days and left if plugged up, got back today it wouldn’t work, aux batt 5v. charged it back up everything comes on, the display then read the traction batteries are low. I plugged it in the C appeared on the display but after an hour I only had one bar on the battery charge icon. I checked the traction batteries with my meter and they are 12+
so I’m now totally lost. hahah THANKS!

Hey: I agree with assembly required. Let me add something to the conversation.

Take the dash off. With your 12 Aux battery hooked up you should read 12.0-12.8v then when you turn the key ON you should have a higher voltage like 13.4-13.8v across the Aux battery.

Also when you plug the car IN you should see the same thing happen a rise in voltage across the Aux battery is this happening? Yes/NO

When you plug your car in are you seeing a C” for Charinging on your Speedo/display? Yes/No

Does your car have this relay installed yes/no
You should hear a faint click from this relay when you turn the key on/off

Thanks for all the info! I replaced the battery drove it fine. Recharged back to 100%.

The curious part of me would not be happy with just swap and go,
I would probably monitor that little jumper battery during various stages to make sure something else is not causing an issue.

Something like:
Let is sit (unplugged overnight) and take a reading.
Then KeyON and take another reading. (it should go up).
KeyOFF and see if it drops a little.
Then Plug car in to charge. (it should go up again)

It’s something I would do. But that is just me.
Good to see you are all good.

I found the wipers don’t work. So I have that to deal with. But after riding it for about 7 miles today I touched the wiper motor and it was hot. I I’m Saying I need a new one. And could that motor being bad drain my aux Battery? Thoughts??

I need wiring diagram. Thanks!

Wiper motor being hot is a problem. For now, see if you can unplug it.
I doubt it is you issue since the power for accessories actually comes from the main battery, and it is supposed to shut down when you KeyOFF.

I could be wrong(there could be a hidden issue), and see if it is still hot when you go out today(after the car has been sitting with key off).

Sorry. I do not have a wiring diagram for Gen4 cars. I have not found one yet.
