And what app is that?
Yes that’s my 24 c bolt and the app is called Ski Tracks
Well just to give you a update, last weekend I was at our Annual Soccer Tournament, I drove the Gem to the fields 1.5 miles away topping out at 47 miles an hour there and back. I drove it for the day around the fields collecting Tornado relief donations and then drive it home with 3.65 still left on the BMS, I tracked it all day on Ski Tracks and did 20.7 miles for the day, I also ran the radio and charged my phone. Not bad with these new Bolt Batteries. I figure I still have 3 to 5 miles in the charge. If you guys didn’t know I live in Dayton Ohio, where we had 7 tornados rip thru our town touching down 14 times over 40 miles. me and my family were lucky we were 1/2 mile from the Ef4 that when thru our town.
Tyson: I would think your car would get 30+ miles on your pack. Your last “ski tracks” screen shot said only 800 vertical feet. And 20 miles??
I went 5000 Vertical feet and 25 miles.
Your car is 20 cell and my car is 24 cell could the extra 4 cells make that much of a diff. ???
My point is this I thought that Hills just ate up my battery packs energy. You don’t seem to have a lot of hills and I thought your car would just fly. Hey as long as your car is doing what you want it to do then Great. If 25 miles and 47MPH gets the job done then Right on. I know most people would kill for 20 Miles and 30 Mph so your doing great
Tyson ,
so glad you and your family are okay . I will deal with our cat 4 hurricanes any day compared to those ef4 tornados . I dont see how anything would hold up against those . Nice job helping out others in need .
you are really taking good care of your battery pack 4.0v is probably 80% soc . between there and 3.5v your pack should last for ever . The 2 things chevy and Nissan cells hate is being fully charged and being fully charged when warm.
Thanks @LithiumGods. It is amazing the paths of these tornados. And the destruction in there paths. Our house in Ohio are not build to with stand major winds like Florida.
@grantwest I agree I think I can get 30 miles easily. I don’t push it and I just don’t drive 30 miles a day on my gem to test it in real world. I am sure here soon I will. Now that the temps are getting warmer I do start to over heat the controller more I will have to figure that out here soon as well. Might add a deflector under the cart for air movement towards the controller.
My next adventure is shocks. The 2002 gem is really stiff loosing all the battery weight.
Tyson. IF you get a controller over Heat code
-41 you can add a small fan like I did to the controller or heat sink and that will take care of the problem.
make sure you have a generous amount of thermal grease between controller and mount
I am looking for a fan / Heat Sink combo to help control the problem. I will stop and get some thermal grease here soon and make sure it is added to the heat shield on the gem
Does anyone have a diagram/ schematic for Chevy Bolt battery pinouts for BMS leads? I found one for the VOLT, but can’t seem to locate one for the Bolt. Thank you! @grantwest, how about you?
I do t use the factory Pin outs. I solder my own BMS Leeds to the battery and wire my own JST plugs. I answered your question in the other thread you started asking this exact same question did you not see it?
For those of you that are looking at this thread for the Bolt conversion, here is what my 2002 4 seater Gem weights after I took all the batteries out and installed the front end 20 cell Bolt lithium battery.
That’s really cool to see where weight sits in the car.
It would have been cool to see stock VS empty VS bolt install. How weight shifted in the car.
It was good to see that most of the weight is dead center in the car
I plan to measure empty vs Bolt soon but for a 2013 E6S.
I know you guys eventually stated your battery pack sizes in number of cells but any chance you can go back to the posted pics and state the cell count and the cell capacity( total of cells in parallel please ) so others can glean meaningful data points when they don’t have the same battery vendor?
After all, cell capacity is measured by cell voltage times amp-hour rating and total capacity is the previous number times the cell count.
20s bolt is about 12kwh
24s 14kwh
1p24s Volt is about 4kwh, 2p24s 8kwh
24s green cells is about 5kwh ~200w each cell
23s and 25s Tesla M3 are around 18-20kwh
We have been using 250w/mile to guesstimate mileage.
Does anyone know if the Chargery 16T or 24T supports CAN Bus? I know there is a RS-232 connection but I have not been able to confirm either way if the unit supports this protocol.
Thanks
Email Jason Wang (I believe he is the CEO). He was quick to respond to my questions. I’ll send you his email (it’s mentioned in the manuals).
Thanks
Emailed Jason and he confirmed there is no CAN Bus support and none is planned.
