825/2. 12volt accessory tap

Hi, on my 01 gem 825/2 can anyone tell me where the best place to get 12volts is? I want to install some accessories like a radio.

Sure, On early (Gen1) cars, the factory supplied a set of wires specifically for this option.

Tucked into the main harness, usually over on the right side (maybe center), look for a Purple wire with a spade connector crimped onto it. Usually a Black wire can be found bundled with it. It might be still covered with tape and hidden. Sometimes these wires peel off the first connector with a second connector(so you can plug in two things).

You might need to remove both the upper and lower sections of the dash panels to locate these wires.

Future use?
Oddly enough, there are a couple other wires in there too if you feel like ferreting them out. Note that there are a couple(2) of unused/empty fuse spaces in your block. I pulled the block off it’s mount and found a couple wires coming off the back of those blank spots. I forget what colors they were(I’ll see if I can find some notes reference this), but they also appeared downstream in the harness. These are not marked in the wiring diagram, and probably installed for future use.

Kewl, I was hoping not to have to pick a battery and hard wire it. Going back to my auto racing days, Since it’s purple can I assume it’s key switch controlled? Lol… About 60 seconds with a volt meter and I’ll have that answer… purple and black buried in the harness to the right of the controller… I get my charger back from elcon Tues or Wed, so I’ll have to take it apart anyway. Perfect time to install a couple of terminal blocks. Then I can just wire whatever accessories to the blocks… btw, elcon was great. I sent it in, the called me with the charges and shipped it back within a few days. The replaced the rectifier block, the fuse holder and upgraded the chip to an adjustable one for lithium/agm/low amp flooded/ high amp flooded. He also modified the case to allow for better ventilation. All this for 225 bucks. He also told me how to test thermister so I can call back and order one from them if I need it. These guys are ok !!

I have mine apart at the moment, so for reference, those are the wires hanging down there once you take off the lower dash panel.
I didn’t know about them when I wired in a phone charger. Took it off of another 12v accessory, which also works, but purple/black better.
