2016 Gem E4 aftermarket rims & tires

@grantwest - I think you are running a different tire size than me also (205/40/17), that makes a difference

Yup a bigger side wall tire could make all the difference. Good thing I have little to no side wall flex or we could have a contact issue

I can’t even put my finger between the rim and the shock on the front or back. - they are close.

Grant what size of tires do you have? I notice you went with a 17 x 9 rim.

I like a wider tire look. I thought 205 are pushing it.

You like me! You really like me!

I resemble that remark.

Happy day!

205/40/17 35mm offset

Using 1.5” spacers

Special nuts are needed. ( you can find them in auto parts or Amazon)

That looks great. I like those rims. What kind are those. Wonder if they have them in black ?
I ordered 1” and 1.5 “ spacers the lugs that Grant suggested.

They have it but in 15”
you can ask them if they have it in 17” black

You are going to need 2" on the back - most likely with an 8" wide tire.

Rims. 17x7.5. +30 offset
Tires. 205/40/17

1.5" spacers on front
1…75 spacer on back (1.5 and 1/4 )

Looks like you got Your wheels one

While it’s fresh in your Mind could you list all the parts you ended up using.

Hi Grant.

The rims and tire are from Grants guy. Haha
Stil do not know his name. Everything went smooth and was competitive with others.

I put on my Gem

Rims Shift Crank 4x114.3(4x4.5) 17x7.5 +30 offset
Spacers 1.5" on front (1" would have worked , wanted the wider stance)
Spacers 1.5 on back ( used 8mm adapter also)
Wanted more clearance from shock in rear.

205/40R/17 tires any brand is good.

Everything fits. Have a slight rub on front fender if I turn sharp. Nothing for me to worry about.

That’s my story ! Good luck to others.

Also another remark

The spacers come with different size lugs.
First 1.5" had 12x1.25 studs
Second set had 12x1.5 studs.
Rookie mistake.
I ordered 1" , 1,5" & 2" spacers and 3mm and 8mm adapters just in case.
Also ordered all spacers with 12x1.25 studs.

I used my old lugs to bolt spacers on. My stock stud where a lot smaller.

This is the lugs I ordered 12 x 1.25@

Hi Grant

I have a 2005 hot rod , just got the lithium battery from Dave@inwo new controller from Mike@lLG
Set up great and happy with it. But … it’s a 2005.
I wanted new body style and found the 2016 that drives way better.

Just bought the 2016. Put new wheels. Looks the way I want it. But … not happy with the performance. Not has fun as my 2005. Any suggestions on how I can get more performance out of it ?
Has new long distance gel batteries,2 months old. Has R4F gears in it. Runs 35mph all out.
6.5v motor. 17" wheels. I’m not ready to do a complete conversion yet. ‘All in’

Is there anything in stages I can do to make it run more responsive and faster ?
Bigger motor?
New controller ?
Already has the gear. (I think that’s why I can do 35mph)

I was told it’s like driving Ms Daisy. Haha that’s was correct compared to my 2005.

Need to sell one of them. Trying to decide which one. Not sure how much to sink into the 2016 to make it fun to drive ? Especially since I just put lots of $$$ in the 2005.

I see in the form you have had LOTS of Gems. Can you suggest anything

BigT: lots of treads about people converting there 48v cars to 80v and even higher.

You will need
#1 Gears
#2 Big Lithium Battery 20- cells or More
#3 New controller
#4 New larger 8kw motor
#5 New higher voltage charger.

And quite a bit of DIY knowledge to be able to work around the various things that need to be either hacked or worked around

Can I use my
22s 82v 90ah lithium battery I got from Dave @Inwo
New Delta Q programs for lithium also from Dave @Inwo and put them in my 2016 ?
Would I need to switch to 72v system ?

Get a 8kw motor and different controller.

@BigT start your own thread on this. Multiple people have done this and can share with you. They may not look at a rims and tires thread.

My 2 cents

Yes - start a new thread

Keep the 2016 long term. Sell the classic gem when you have the 2016 dialed in. Or list it for a good for you price and see what bites you get.

Your wheels look fantastic. I want some!
