Person is selling locally a six seater 07 E6 title plates everything they had batteries put in three years ago. They were driving it and it just it acts like it wants to go forward, but doesn’t has power no error codes. Selling for $1000 , gonna go look at it tomorrow. Do you guys think it’s worth it and what kind of thing should I be looking at when I go look at it to diagnostic?
Fully charged battery pack?
Original battery configuration for the E6 and eLXD is to use nine 8V batteries, If they kept that configuration when they put new batteries in, with nine batteries, it’s possible to have one that is starting to tank, but hasn’t completely died yet and it’s doing just enough to keep the low pack voltage error from coming on. When the pack is “fully charged” verify each battery voltage individually by performing a “brake stand test” Have someone else in the drivers seat standing on the brake pedal (plus the parking brake is set) and then while set to Forward drive, have them depress the accelerator pedal all the way down, after a few seconds, check the voltage across one battery and write it down. Let off the accelerator, wait about a minute and do it all again with the next battery. And so on. If you have a dying battery, it’ll be very apparent by it’s voltage under load.
See what motor is installed, try to get a picture of the name plate. I forget which brand was being used back then, but if it’s a 7hp fan cooled (long ass motor - regardless of manufacturer), those all had two sets of brushes, so eight total, if one or two or more are stuck / hanging up in the holders and not making (good) contact with the commutator, the motor isn’t getting voltage to some of the windings it won’t be able to spin. The AMD motors were the most notorious for brushes hanging up, IIRC, certain colors were more prone than others. The fan cooled GE wasn’t as prone as the AMD motors, but thety would still hang up eventually.
I agree with JarJar ^^.
Those motors were horrible for sticking brushes. Unfortunately, these awesome motors are also tough to take apart to free the sticky brushes.
MainBattSw-ON, KeyON
Meter - Probe across POS and NEG on top of controller should be PackVolts (above 72v to 84v). This should not drop much when throttle applied.
If you bring a floor jack you could try running car wheels off the ground and watch vented area on motor. It will probably be quite the light show(spitting blue fire and popping in protest. If yes, do not run it very long. The motor will need serviced.
Pics I got , supposed to look at today , I have a 2001 e825 been great but want something bigger do you know if the parts off my 01 are usable on the 07
That’s a lovely rain flap , wouldn’t you say @AssyRequired ? Don’t you agree? Must be one of the most gorgeous train flaps I’ve ever seem, and the quarter profile of the differential just muwah its so perfect.
And that upholstery, red and white,? Together? Forever. Like traffic and weather…
…i l, i. Think I’m getting wood…
The windshield. The wiper motor, hood, both front fenders, the brake lights and Sideview mirrors. Probably the back seat floor mats and maybe the rear bench seat.
Dont laugh new hoods and windshields are pricey. Hoods are like $600 plus shipping and then you have to paint and clear coat it, they come unfished.
That’s about it. There is basically nothing on a pre-2005 that will work on the e6
