2002 gem lithium conversion

Daves not here man…

(If i know Dave… hes building that harness right now as we type. Plus that one-liner never gets old)

Put my name on a Mid-voltage please. I assume with the increased voltage the charger will need to be different. Is that something Dave can do?

This may be a one time thing for me. MM sells custom batteries. I just happen to have one from harness building.

I do have some 110ah 6s EV batteries for cheap. Left over from another project. 4 of them would make a nice high voltage battery. 84v nominal. 96v max.

Needs mid-skill level to mount and connect in series, but result should be great performance.

@Inwo how much would those be , I wouldn’t mind doing some fab work

This will be the first Gem. I did do one in my buddy’s 72v Th!nk.

I’ll get pictures as I wire it. Maybe I saved one from the think.

The only wiring I need to do is put plugs on them for plug and play bms.

The 4 modules just connect in series like oem 6 12v batteries. These are 4 x 18v. All are on one bluetooth bms, so disregard our panning those using 6x12v batteries in series.

Picture was before wire management. Shows 2x2 layout, but they may be moved around or even stacked. I bolted them to a piece of osb the size of Tesla battery, above, that it replaced, and slid it in in one piece.

This is 9kwh for when you compare prices.

And the last Mighty Might is ready to ship.

Ships in two pieces with violet series connection removed and small red bms wires unplugged.

risky in a 2002. They have T2 controllers. Some wont play nice with 96v and will need a Deltaq charger. MM is a better battery for a 2002

Yes, the mm is available for @Bigeric619 2002. I should have broken off the other inquiries, but having trouble.

Fitment in a 2002 may also be a problem for the big modules.. 4 pieces.

@LithiumGods, will these easily fit 2002?

I mean your mid-volt pack.

Now wait one second.. my train rides really nice..and it’s an 02’.  Of course it only goes 2mph in a parade.. :winking_face_with_tongue:

my train rides really nice

I think your train falls under the class of being "slightly modified’.
Does it still have plates/papers?

Well, I guess you could say “slightly modified” is accurate. Ha ha..
Never had plates or papers. Bought it off a farm after it had been sitting outside for several years not working.
The other one I bought that was very clean with good batteries and all, no plates or papers either… bought that also off a ranch where they used it to get between buildings and to the neighbors house. I sold that one.
Seems there are a lot of Gems in rural areas that never see a real road.

And a substantial number of those are 2002’s…

Must have been a good year for the GEM sales. The one I sold was really clean. Wanted to keep it, but no place to put it… Now the people that bought it want to sell it because they realize where we live there is no place to drive it past the neighbor’s house..

From what i recall it was tax breaks, CA state and federal. At least in CA, anyone could get the alternate fuel vehicle breaks. If you owned “farm property” there was an additional break or even government rebate. Or maybe both.

GEMs, ZENNs, and another electric, which was a super sketchy 3 wheeler, the Zebra i think it was called. But also included hydrogen vehicles and maybe LNG too.

There was actually a dealership here in Davis for all of the above and I test drove all of them but had just missed the big rebates so i didn’t buy at the time. The ZENN was awesome, it was basically a real mini car, even had air conditioning. But, like the gull winged 3 wheeler, they were so small and vertically challenged, you’d probably get run over by a u-haul truck before they even noticed you were there.

The GEM was the best one for doing anything with and the best chance of survival, IMO, because you sat up high and was larger. Higher so you can be seen and if your Batman skills were up to par, you could jump free of the vehicle as it was being crushed (no doors FTW!) But it rode like complete and total crap and you couldn’t stop it when it was loaded.

So 10-12 years later (maybe a little longer), what did i do? Went and bought the most clapped out, beat to shyt, road unworthy, 02 gem truck you could imagine, from the UCD Bus transit dept. They used to put mounted bus tires and truck jacks in that and go drive over curbs as a rescue vehicle when the students who drove the busses would blow a tire. Vehicular mayhem comedy at its finest…

That’s $400 I’ll never get back…
