My 2002 Gem car will not switch out of Turf mode?
you will have to check the switch and then check the signals from the switch to the controller.
That was it! The wire from the switch to the connector to the controller was open, replaced the wire and it works

Check the white wire where it enters the Molex connector. Maybe the guy who crimped the pins 17 years ago used too much pressure and it finally failed. 
You are correct I bypassed the connector with the white wire and it works perfect.
