2002 GEM 2 seater, 2x 36v battery YouTube series

Putting together a new series on YouTube on a new channel for a refresh on the car I got in a trade. It’s a budget build, so might fit in some people’s wheelhouse. I might do a higher end build later if I end up liking this car, which is starting to be the case lol.

pls check it out, first video has been up for a bit, second one I’m uploading tonight or tomorrow.

Batteries in series. Good luck with that!

Bad idea. Please don’t share. Ask first, buy later.

The manufacturer says one battery in series, meaning don’t do it as you said.. I hope he sees this before he gets too far.

These are the Enjoybot 36v new gen batteries.
Directly from the manual included with the batteries. And also confirmed with tech support via email.

I did ask first, the manufacturer (Enjoybot) tech support direct. I don’t know where that quote you got came from. Plus it’s in the manual. See below.

Ok, good luck. It may work out OK. You will be the first. Please don’t be pushing untested ideas until you have a few months on them.

The specs I found were 100 amp bms. Have you found bigger ones? Fyi, Gem uses 350 amp controller. I’ve seen peaks well over that. I hope you have a light foot and level ground.

I saw it on the enjoybot web site.. INWO was right to bring it up. Most wont let you series two 36v or 48v batteries. from their web site this is the manual I saw..

Anyway, hope the BMS’ works out.. do keep an eye out for the voltages over time.

Mine are 200 bms, w max 600amp controller handling, as I mentioned before they are the newer generation. Perhaps I should put that disclaimer in the video or in my posts?

Will do, will keep you updated as well.

Great 200 amp should be fine. It looks like you did your research.

That may be the answer for 2002 gems. One front and one in back. We never found a bms to work like that. Well, I did just lately, and now I’m out of 36v batteries. :frowning:

I did. I’ll update the description on YT later to include the disclaimer about the generation of battery I used in part 1 and part 2. Just need to rest a bit before my graveyard shift. I should have time, it’s not like it’s a viral video or anything haha

I think the goal here is to NOT rush getting a “How to:” video published on something that is not even tested yet.

Ok, getting the general census here from everyone, I will refrain from commenting and contributing further.

But correct me if I’m wrong but you were the one that told me to “prove you wrong” about fitting these things and “this place is an all about running with scissors”. I said I’ll be a guinea pig for these things, actually the whole project. I like to document and share stuff of how I did things whether if they work or don’t. I’m not telling everyone to go out and follow my lead. If anyone does then great if they don’t then don’t. I’m not afraid to let people know something didn’t work in the end. But no one is going to know unless it’s done. I’m following the manufacturer’s instructions and everything is within spec. They have a 10 year warranty so I’m fine with trying it.

I’ll stay off your forums. I’ve flagged for the topic to be removed as well. Thanks for your time fellas.

No. I think you misunderstood.
I’m fine with progress reports and keeping us posted on your project here on the e-forums. Especially where we are also able to comment and offer alternate opinions, and direction for solutions.

What I was commenting on is that you posted your video series on YTube. There is a high possibility that it will get exposure without this alternate input. I’m fairly sure someone is going to drop in on your channel and duplicate your efforts because of your series. That’s ok too, but they are now doing this without knowing that it comes with a certain amount of risk and that this is all experimental, and at this point your project is untested or even complete.

What happens quite often is when they run into problems these outside followers eventually wander in here looking for answers. Hopefully you will be around to help too.

Yes, and you even asked here almost a month ago. I think I offered my opinions as to why your path is not the best solution but IIRC the batteries were already ordered and on the way. I felt as long as you understood at least some of the things you will be faced with, I was willing to see how it all panned out.

The problem I have with (Enjoybot/or any other battery company) tech support is that while they might know their product, I bet they do not know what it takes to run their product in Gem cars.

No worries, I always tell people to ask questions in the YouTube comments of all the projects I put online. Never had an issue with any other forums being bothered with questions with any of my other projects. I requested my 2 posts be removed so they are not searchable through search engines as well.

Will also put a tagline not to bother this forum with any questions. Will try to keep traffic away.

→ Still ← not getting the point.
But Ok. Good luck on your project.

This was a serious apology. Maybe you took it as sarcasm?

You must admit my doubts when published specs were “no series connection” and 100 amp bms.

You might have led with the real specs!

I honestly didn’t even know the older batteries were still on their site. Otherwise I would have led with the new specs. That’s why I was confused and said I didn’t know where the quote came from. Re: “No series connection”.

I never even went to the 36v section, only 72v section which only shows the newer 200amp bms model in a package. Looking at the 36v section now, I see there is both the old and the new 200amp models.
