05 GEM ES motor whine

Is the motor supposed to be quite when powering down the road, the GEM I just purchased sound like a jet fighter going down the road at 20 plus mph. No trouble codes showing on the display, when I back off the pedal it will quite down some but still makes noise. Never been around one before so not sure what they sound like or should they be as quite as a golf cart.

If it’s high pitched it’s more likely gear whine. There is an additive you can try to reduce it.
