Zivan Charger no longer works

I have a 2002 GEM fairly new batteries but the original Zivan NG1 72v charger quit working. The charger is over $500 new! Does anyone has a charger for sale? Or is there an alternative for the Zivan charger?

Chargers are tricky. So many things can go wrong.

Can you describe how you diagnosed it is truly dead-dead and that you need a new one?

Is the charger making any noises at all?
If not-
You need to determine if it has proper power on the input cord. It could be on the house end, the cord you are using, a bad connection where you plug it into the car.

Then again- it is possible for something 23 years old has finally done pumping out the amps.

Are there any bad smells drifting out from under your dash?

No bad smells for sure. I will gather more information

I have a used one, could send and if works agree to a number . Cell is 6033651073, Larry

Sounds good. I will text you. I’m in 858 area code.

FYI this charger came out of my 2002 825E when I went to a DeltaQ and the person who did the swap works on these and I have his info as well, Larry

Hello Larry, do you still have the telephone number for the guy that does Zivan charger repairs?

Does anyone have a used working Zivan NG1 72V charger for sale. Please PM if you do, thanks

Elcon not able to help you out?

Yes but my cart and charger are in Arizona. We won’t be down there until November. I was hoping to find a charger that was ready to install when we arrived for the winter. Otherwise if I ship it out in November , I probably won’t see it repaired until spring.

Go on Amazon and order a 72v charger so you can charge the batts while yours is out being repaired. If you get the one with the selector for different voltages, you can use it for whatever else too. That’s what I did.

So with a 72v charger , I just hook up to any battery and it will charge them all at once? If I am going to sell the cart and buy new would this 72v charger be suffcient to sell it with?

No! Good lord, no!!!
Using that charger is the quickest way to cr@p out a set of batteries and possibly even burn your cart to the ground.

No no no… ANY BATTERY… NO !!! You Have 6 batteries at 12 v each for a total of 72 volts. Find battery 1 which will have a large orange cable marked B1neg to the neg side. Normally under the seat. The neg on the charger will go there. Then find battery 6, normally under the hood. There will be an orange Cable marked B6pos on it. The pos side of the charger will go there. I’m going to assume that your car is wired correctly since you didnt stare any other issues, but if you have a volt meter, it would be a good idea to measure the voltage from the B1neg to the B6pos which should read around 72v depending on the state of charge. If you have that then connect the charger, set the selector switch to 72v and let it do it’s thing. Also, make sure the battery switch is on and the key is off when charging with an external charger. That being said… A second option is to lift the dash and connected to the zivan charger is a plug with two 10 Guage wires . That is the output connection from the charger going to the batteries. You can make a couple of jumper wires to connect to the charger and charge you pack through that plug. You’ll need some 10 GUAGE WIRE and a couple of solderless spade connectors to make this connection. BE CAREFUL NOT TO SHORT THIS CONNECTION!! If you make this jumper long enough you can run it under the dash so you won’t have to keep lifting the dash every time you want to charge the batteries while your zivan is out for repair. Oh yeah … On your zivan to the left of the output plug, there are two smaller wires. These are the interlock wires. These need to be connected for the car to run. (Just use a fuse for this connection ) It’s just a safety to insure you don’t hop in the car and try to take off while you are plugged in. If this circuit is not complete, the car will think that the charger is plugged in and not let you go. The third set of wires on your zivan is a round plug with two wires . This is for a heat sensor and to light up the little LED bulb on you dash. You can simply just leave it hanging as it is not necessary for the car to run. It just tells the charger to adjust the charge depending on battery temperature. this should get you going till you get your zivan repaired.

OK I somehow believe I now know my options. I’m still hoping for a used Zivan before going back to Arizona in November. That would be the cheapest and easiest. Then I wouldn’t have to buy a 72v charger and wait for the Zivan repair. I do thank you for the 72v charger info and the correct way to hook it up. I still hope to sell this Gem and buy a new golf cart.
