There have been a number of press reports with regards to battery capacity and how this will be impacted during extreme weather conditions for electric vehicles. Indeed Nissan has been commenting upon the Nissan Leaf and the fact that in perfect conditions it can do around 138 miles per full charge while in the event of extreme weather conditions and “stop start traffic” this may fall to as low as 62 miles per full charge.
Some electric vehicle companies have been suggesting that owners “warm up” their cars in the morning when plugged into their home charging systems because this will take power from the charging system as opposed to draining the battery. There are also a number of mobile phone apps available which will allow you to “start your vehicle remotely” so that it is warmed up before you drive off.
