Street legal guidlines

Newbie here.

Sorry to rehash something that has surely been brought up here before. I performed a forum search and came up empty.

A co-worker and I are embarking on building a street legal vehicle (3 or 4 wheels) from scratch. But before we jump into our design process, I want to make sure I know the standards to shoot for. I found a couple starter documents like: http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov/staticfiles/DOT/NHTSA/Rulemaking/Articles/Associated%20Files/newmanufacturer.pdf

But I also wanted to get feedback from you guys and girls who are or once were at the same stage we are.

Thanks, and it’s good to be aboard!

make sure its a registerable vehicle. from a “kit car” to a “motorcycle” usually you can register a trike as a motorcycle and declare it a “custom bike” i’ve been thinking about going that route so that i can have basicly everything into one package but still keep it enclosed.
