2012 Gem e4. Bought this from a friend who’s owned several GEMs over the years and before he sold it, he asked if I wanted to only use AGM batteries or buy a new charger and use deep cycle batteries. He told me that he called around and this GEM’s charger couldn’t be re-programmed for deep cycle batteries. I was told that the old charger can’t be disconnected because the controller runs through it. I now have a new Delta Q charger mounted but am not sure how to hook up the wires coming from this new charger. I’ve attached a picture of my controller - the current (old) charger is mounted underneath and as mentioned, I won’t be removing it. Any help would be greatly appreciated !
Pretty sure your charger has deep cyl algorithms in it already .
All do afaik…
Any charger will work. Controller does not run through charger.
There is an interlock that is easily connected or defeated.
More likely that it will not do agms. What profile (blinks) is in it now?
Without getting into too much detail, the current factory charger will not charge the new deep cycle batteries - whether the factory charger is gone, I don’t know - it won’t charge the deep cycle batteries in there now.
I’ve purchased a Delta Q charger and just want to know where I need to hook up the positive and negative wires coming from this new charger. Some posts have stated not to hook up directly to the controller, others state it’s
OK for the negative wire to be hooked up to the controller and are vague about the positive lead.
Thanks.

I’ve been told by more than one person that it can’t be re-programmed.

Neg does go to contoller , Pos goes to a stud under the lower inside cowling . From there it goes to the back of the black box under the dash . I always move the charger wire from the stud to the back of the box so that if i have to go in there again I don’t have to remove the lower panel only the upper .
Is the yellow Deltaq that you are removing for sale ? I would be interested in buying it .
Also posting pictures of what you have helps a lot to give you guidance .
Thanks very much for the info ! The charger I’m removing is already spoken for.
Thanks again - the positive wire was the one I had no idea where to connect it to.
Make sure when you hook up the new charger you check to see which algo it is set to . Default is usually Gel and that setting will kill deep cycle .
Yes - I double checked and the new charger has definitely been set for deep cycle batteries.
Thanks.
So can you use both of them?
Yes. The original factory one is unplugged and the new one hooked up and works fine.
