Looking at one Saturday, what should I look for?

I’m looking at one on Saturday, a 2001 GEM E825 two-seater. They say it ran when they first got it, but the batteries are now dead.

Obviously I’ll be replacing batteries (don’t know how much that might cost), are there other things I should keep an eye out for that would be red flags or danger signs?

I’ve never had a GEM before, I don’t want to buy a lemon.

Thank you for all your input!

Just my opinion, but I would not buy anything older than 2005. Having hydraulic brakes real plus, also 5 HP motor with temperature sensor important too.
