Gem 2002 charger burned out, diagnostics and issues

Hello all, I found this incredible forum on gems. We bought a gem at auction knowing the charger went bad, it was burned out in an electrical issue but even with that, the cart moved when batteries were installed and turned on. Somehow the previous owner got the cart moving and not sure how but it took a 200 miles journey back home and some moving around before I got the chance to work on it.

When I got to it, I removed the old charger and tried to salvage what I could of what’s left. The

I plan on getting an aftermarket 72v charger and installing it under the rear seats instead of under the dash. However I did get new batteries for it in the meantime.

To even get this turning on, I had to jump the green wire that went from the charger to what I presumed to be the interlock which was connected to a solid state time delay relay.

Upon trying to get it running I got all the electrical to come on which seemed like a relief, however found from this forum that the ebrake switch definitely went bad so I must change that as I started getting the -04 error and found no continuity with my voltmeter. And what a little pain in the ass to change that little part as well!

After bypassing the defective switch, it now gives me the error -08 and -11 based on whether I press the accelerator or not. Also not getting a 72v reading on the positive side of the controller when pressing accelerator. I also believe there is no 72v going to the positive side because of the error codes. I only see a nominal voltage of about 370 mv and a slight thump like it wants to move slightly.

Anyone else have this problem yet and how did you bypass these errors to get it going?

I also have this issue where the old zivan charger was attached to a green and red wire that goes towards the steering assembly and controls. Any idea what it’s for and should I just cap it off.

Thanks all!
