"Extended Range" Electric: Chevy Volt / Nissan Leaf

Doing a comparison and trying to get others opinions.

When comparing the “Extended Range” Electric: Chevy Volt to the Nissan Leaf what components do you think are needed for either of these to become successful? What additional challenges must be overcome? What role do you think the government could or should make to encourage the wide spread of this innovation?

“Extended range” is different for the volt than the Leaf.

In the case of the Volt it means extended range in the all electric mode. (also applies to Plug in Prius and all other hybrids.) This could include more battery and/or other efficiency improving measures.

IMHO probably unnecessary just because they are Hybrids.

In the case of the Leaf and other pure EVs More battery plus technological improvements that evolve over time will result in greater range.

The Hybrid is probably a better choice for the single vehicle family.
