Vision Motor Cars (Vision Motor Cars) launched a highway version of the minitruck in 2009 by meeting the FMVSS standards, crash testing, and spending tons of money on regulations. Just when they seemed like they were going to begin filling orders, they were stopped dead in their tracks by the EPA. Turns out they snuck a new rule onto the books that calls for a “Fuel Economy Label,” to be placed on electric vehicles that tells consumers how much gasoline they use. Huh? Electric cars don’t use any fuel. No matter. The EPA does a nifty conversion of 37,500 BTU (derived from kilowatts) to make it crystal clear to the consumer. Go figure the public good on this one.

The test takes up to 12 months with no cost estimate, and the testing protocol is classified. Once they publish the label, there is no appeal process. If they say the vehicle goes 10 miles on a charge, there is nothing you can do about it.

VMCI has been working with Congress for a year to get the words, “…not limited to electric vehicles,” removed from the EPA’s new rule. Until then, there are 140 thousand trucks waiting for delivery. Too bad, America. The EPA is working directly for the oil companies on this one.

I’m looking at Balqon’s vehicles. Looks like they have some contracts already and trucks in service with the Port of Los Angeles. I saw a video clip of the company and Anderson Cooper, and another with L.A.'s Mayor Villaraigosa. I’ll do some more research, but seems promising.

Hi Big Deal,
Except for the timing from the first post on this thread, to yours, was about 2 years, and a lot has moved in that time, but VMC is still apparently the only small and light EV truck maker currently, since Ford Orphaned the Ford Ranger EV some 10+ years ago! (The President of the Electric Vehicle Society of Canada bought one, and can’t get any support! - hence - orphaned!)

The Balqon Trucks are big boys toys for sure! Plus - i don’t think you can get one today for anything like the $25,000 price Vision Motor cars Mentions for their truck!

Hi Brooks - any news or plans on the certification of the Truck yet? The videos on the site sound like it’s now done!

Any interest in marketing that Truck up here in Canada? I know one LSV Truck Retailer that could use this vehicle in their offerings to give them some spread and a much bigger market reach!

I am not able to see the video of the car. :frowning:
